We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tyanna Joyner . Check out our conversation below.
Tyanna, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I would say energy, because the energy we carry not only shapes how we show up in the world, but it also radiates outward and impacts everyone around us. The right energy can inspire, uplift, and even transform environments. When you’re surrounded by people with aligned, positive energy, it becomes contagious — it fuels creativity, motivation, and connection. To me, energy is the spark that sets everything else in motion.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey, I’m Tyanna! I’ve always been passionate about creating and building things that inspire people, and that shows up in all the different parts of my life. I started with my salon and hair brand, because I love celebrating Black beauty and giving people that extra boost of confidence when they leave my chair. From there, I tapped into my creative side as a writer, I recently released a children’s book called “The ABCs of Black Hair”— I’m working on my first novel right now, and it’s really close to my heart because it’s based on love, lessons, and growth. And then there’s JURNEY 2 Fit, my fitness brand, which is about so much more than working out — it’s about pushing yourself, finding your strength, and feeling good inside and out.
What ties it all together is that everything I do comes from my own journey. I’ve learned how powerful it is to take your experiences, even the hard ones, and turn them into something that can help and inspire other people. That’s what makes my brand special to me — it’s real, it’s personal, and it’s all about energy and empowerment
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
The person who taught me the most about work was definitely my grandmother. Growing up, I watched her run two businesses — a daycare and a janitorial company with contracts all over the city. I used to help her out, and even as a kid, I was learning so much just by watching how she carried herself. She was strong, independent, and handled everything on her own, while being a wife and taking care of my siblings and myself and that really stuck with me. Seeing a woman like her balance it all and build something for herself inspired me to follow that same path of entrepreneurship.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self to never give up. Every struggle you face is just a step toward success, as long as you keep getting back up and pushing forward. Hold on to your faith and trust God, because with Him guiding you, nothing is impossible. Everything you’re going through is preparing you for the woman you’re meant to become.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is definitely the real me. I think being authentic is so important, especially today when we’re surrounded by so many different influences and even AI. I want people to see the real me, because when you’re genuine, people can feel it. They hear it in your voice, they see it in your work, and they connect with you on a deeper level. That authenticity is where the passion comes through.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was someone who poured into others — that I used my gifts to inspire, uplift, and create spaces where people felt confident and seen. Whether it was through my salon, my writing, or JURNEY 2 Fit, I want my story to be that I turned my struggles into purpose and built something real from it. More than anything, I hope people remember my energy — that being around me made them believe in themselves a little more, chase their dreams a little harder, and know that with faith in God, anything is possible. I hope they remember that i loved and lived.
