Taylor Scott shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Taylor, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My family is my joy. I have 1-year-old twins, Sawyer & Savannah, a wonderful husband, Conner, and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named George. I love our family, even with the craziness of raising twins. It truly is the best!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Taylor Cousins Scott, a residential Realtor since 2014. I am honored to be a member of Compass Real Estate and The Highland Group in Dallas, Texas. The Highland Group comprises a team of seasoned agents, including Taylor Burden, Caroline Thompson, Taylor Scott, Annalee Aston, and Duke Jimerson. We leverage our local knowledge and diverse experience to deliver exceptional service to clients purchasing and selling homes in desirable Dallas neighborhoods such as Highland Park, University Park, and beyond.
As a twin mother, world traveler, and accomplished equestrian, I possess a unique combination of marketing acumen and design expertise that sets me apart as an agent. Growing up in Hinsdale, Illinois, my early interest in real estate was nurtured through internships with luxury agents, establishing the groundwork for my concierge-style service. Whether assisting clients in reimagining spaces or developing innovative marketing strategies, I consistently embody energy, integrity, and a results-oriented approach to neighborhoods throughout the Dallas metropolitan area.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents have been exemplary role models through their unwavering work ethic. My father recently celebrated his 70th birthday, and my mother is approaching her 70th as well. Despite their age, they continue to be employed. My father currently consults with various companies, while my mother remains an international flight attendant.
My father’s career progression was marked by his relentless pursuit of excellence and dedication. He rose to the position of Vice President of Sales at a prominent corporation and retired a few years ago, while still continuing to provide consulting services to companies. His unwavering commitment to personal growth and self-improvement is truly inspiring.
My mother has been a flight attendant since graduating from college. She navigates the challenging aspects of travel, customer service, and time zone adjustments while maintaining her composure and professionalism upon returning home. Her resilience and dedication are truly remarkable.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there have been many times. Real estate is certainly not for the faint of heart. The Dallas residential market is highly competitive, requiring significant time and dedication to thrive. With so many talented agents in the city, you must consistently work to differentiate yourself, demonstrating your value to clients whether as a listing agent or a buyer’s agent.
Achieving success in the real estate industry requires a sustained effort. Establishing strong relationships with clients and building a reputable reputation are crucial steps in this process. The true value of a real estate agent lies in the ability to retain repeat clients and generate referrals from satisfied clients to new prospects.
In the real estate industry, compensation is typically paid on a commission basis, meaning that agents are only compensated after a sale has been finalized. This commission-based structure ensures that agents are financially motivated to ensure the success of their clients’ transactions.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that family and friends matter most to me. I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am today, both personally and professionally, without their unwavering support and guidance.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I had 10 years left, I would stop stressing about the little things and focus on experiencing life to the fullest. Life is incredibly short, and it passes by so quickly, especially watching my twins grow up. It’s like the saying, “Don’t Blink.” Life throws us many curveballs, both good and bad, and I admit I can get caught up in stressing about things that don’t go according to plan. However, being present in the moment with my family and friends is what truly matters.
