Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Monica King of Dallas, TX

We recently had the chance to connect with Monica King and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Monica, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One of the biggest misconceptions about interior design is that it’s purely about making a space look pretty. In reality, design is just as much about problem-solving, function, and creating an environment that truly supports the way people live. At King Concept Interiors, my work goes far beyond selecting paint colors or furniture—it’s about listening to my clients, understanding their needs, and crafting a design that feels like home for them. It’s equal parts creativity, strategy, and project management.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Monica King, and I’m the founder of King Concept Interiors, where we create spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful. At King Concept Interiors, our mission is to thoughtfully shape interiors that reflect your lifestyle, elevate your space, and inspire daily living. We specialize in sophisticated new builds and elevated renovations that blend timeless design with purposeful function, all while making the process seamless and stress-free.

I started this business while raising two kids, which gave me a real appreciation for how important it is for a home to work for your lifestyle, not just look good in photos. That perspective guides everything I do—I want my clients to feel comfortable, inspired, and truly at home. Right now, I’m excited about expanding my portfolio with new residential projects and sharing more of the behind-the-scenes of design, because while it’s not always glamorous, it’s always worth it

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Becoming a mother completely reshaped the way I see the world. The moment I held my first child, my priorities shifted. I began to see life through the lens of legacy, balance, and purpose. Motherhood taught me that time and space are precious, and that our environments have a powerful impact on how we live and feel every day.

That experience also changed how I approach my work. I design with more intention now, always thinking about how a space supports the people in it, not just how it looks. Motherhood gave me resilience, patience, and a deeper understanding of what it means to create a home that truly nurtures. It is one of the most challenging roles I have ever had, but also the most rewarding, and it continues to shape not only who I am, but the kind of designer I strive to be

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Trust yourself—you’re stronger and more capable than you realize.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
One cultural value I protect at all costs is authenticity. In both life and work, I believe it’s essential to stay true to who you are and what you stand for. For me, that means being honest with myself, my clients, and my team, and creating spaces that genuinely reflect the people who live in them. Authenticity builds trust, fosters meaningful connections, and ensures that every design and every decision comes from a place of integrity.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand deeply that a home is more than just a space—it’s a foundation for how we live, grow, and connect. Most people see design as purely aesthetic, but I know it has the power to shape daily life, influence moods, and support the way a family functions. Through both motherhood and design, I’ve learned that thoughtful, intentional spaces can make a huge difference in how people feel and interact in their homes.
