Kitty Robinson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Kitty, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I recently bought a DJ soundboard and I’ve been learning the ins and outs of mixing and creating new forms of art.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kitty, and I am a self-taught artist living in North Dallas. I’ve always had a passion for art but recently made my talents more professional when I opened an Etsy store in 2022. Since then I’ve created and sold various pieces of artwork that I’m very proud of. I would describe my style as vibrant cartoon art. I love recreating images from my favorite childhood shows. More recently I’ve been focused on custom commissions that are submitted to me by reference photo. I also post full length progress videos on my TikTok account. So far my journey as an artist has felt like second nature to me since I’ve been painting since elementary school, but over the years I’ve tried experimenting with different mediums to make my artwork more lively. Although I don’t think my etsy store will be able to support me financially I do have fun creating, and I think that’s what matters the most. No matter what I do professionally in my career art will always be a part of that.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up, I used to believe that I was outspoken and overlooked. It took me a while to realize that perception of myself had not yet reached her full potential. I did not understand who I was destined to be. I didn’t feel compelled to speak up or to draw attention to myself. I didn’t think a person like me could ever be a leader or role model for my peers. It wasn’t until halfway through high school I realized that my voice was important. By then there were better ways for someone like me who was introverted to express myself in ways that could reach millions of people. By the end of high school I had a following of 150k and I can say that my younger self would’ve never believed it.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Knowledge is power, truly and undeniably. I’d probably mention something about bitcoin as well.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I wanna be able to bring good energy in inspire others and everything that I do. And right now my project to accomplish that would be to become the best female DJ in the world. I feel like time is on my side with this one, especially with social media today. My journey as a DJ is just beginning, but mentioning it in this article is solidifying that I will do whatever it takes to make happen.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I regret not getting started on my passions sooner. There was always something in the way of doing the things that I loved. When I finally cut those distractions out, it has brought so much more happiness into my life. Having a more flexible schedule to make time for art and music has put me on a path that I know will impact more than just myself.
