We’re looking forward to introducing you to Robert Abtahi. Check out our conversation below.
Robert, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
The majority of my work day is spent on the phone. From a business perspective we field roughly 80 calls a day from individuals looking to hire a lawyer. Those calls are then sorted and triaged to determine which calls need a direct call back from myself or from a member of our team. Thats simply from a new client perspective and when you work in all the other obligations from family, to civic involvement and miscellaneous calls then I probably end up getting a 100 calls a day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Bobby Abtahi and I focus my day to day on helping people and spending time with my family. In addition to being one of the founding partners of the law firm Texas Defenders, I have a passion for giving back to the Dallas community through service on various non-profit boards that are near and dead to my heart. The thing that makes Texas Defenders stand apart from other firms is that we have an intense focus on customer service. We want to make the process of hiring a lawyer as frictionless and simple as possible. We understand people are busy and they don’t want to waste time with outdated formalities that often accompany the legal field. We have a wide variety of ways for people to contact us both traditional such as phone and email as well as more modern through our website and our business SMS text message line. If you had to boil our brand down to one simple message it is that when you are facing a legal problem you hire us to worry about it for you.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe a loss of trust above all else is what breaks the bonds between people. Once someone loses trust in their lawyer, spouse, friend, or any other professional or personal relationship then it is incredibly difficult to restore that relationship. Restoring trust is a very difficult thing to do and rarely do I see it work. Only with time, mutual respect and a lot of hard work can trust be restored.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t worry. Be happy.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. Too many people are living multiple lives. Some have their public version, their social media version, their professional version and many more. Life is too short, too complicated and too stressful to deal with so many different versions. I believe that much of my success can be attributed to simply being myself with people Honest, straightforward and to the point. This doesn’t always work well with everyone but it is much easier to move on from those people than it is to try to appease them with fluff. We’re not meant to be all things to all people.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Working. I would spend all my time with my family.
