Good morning Ashley, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? When was the last time you felt true joy?
Celebrating my son’s birthday. Seeing him from birth to present day and getting a front row seat to experience his evolution is a joy like no other.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a self-published author. I use my imagination to bring characters to life. I think what makes me/my brand interesting isn’t my ability to create from scratch; rather, the emergence through a process of self-discovery, practice, and refinement. Writing has challenged me and forced me to view uncomfortable areas to explore and make peace with. So while I birthed characters, I also grew myself in the process. A dope experience in the end although sometimes not the most fun during the process lol.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My grandmother. She raised 14 children as a widow and worked to ensure her family was provided for emotionally, physically and spiritually. I never heard her complain and she always could find the blessing in any situation.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
To appreciate your blessings. Sometimes I’m guilty of spending so much time on what I don’t have or what’s going wrong that I forget all that I do have and what’s going right. My blessings have always outweighed my bad days.

Creating quality content my son can see himself in. Not the societals version but the true beauty of black boy joy 🙂
