We recently had the chance to connect with Jasmine Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of my profession as a HR professional, I am a singer and lately I have spent a lot of time in the recording studio. When I am in the studio I am excited and take in every moment. I get a sense of excitement witnessing a song come together.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jasmine Harris. I am a wife, daughter/granddaughter, sister, aunt, First Lady of a growing church ministering, and most importantly the founder of an amazing non-profit by the name of Corporate Girl Christ Minded. Corporate Girl Christ Minded is a non-profit that provides a community of support for professional women. What makes Corporate Girl Christ Minded unique is that we provide support that will enable professional women to be empowered to excel within their careers while being strengthened spiritually through the faith principles that are woven throughout the organization.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
As a child, I was graced to be surrounded by very strong women, with strong morals and values such as my dance leader at my childhood church. “Sister Furlow”, as I affectionally call her, taught me about having standards and operating from a standard of excellence. She never let us “half way” do anything within the dance ministry. We had to be on time, present minded, uniforms crisp and clean, and most importantly must have the right heart towards ministering. We were instructed to give our all and work diligently at the gift that God gave us. I implement these same standards in my work as a HR Professional and within the various roles I hold outside of my corporate job. I wholeheartedly put my all into what I am called to do.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I was very hard on myself growing up. I was a perfectionist and still consider myself to be one. However, I have come to the realization through life experiences that it is not always about being perfect, but consistent. I would definitely tell my younger self that it’s ok not to have everything in line and to know every step you are about to take in life. However, it is ok to be consistent.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
The project I am most committed to, no matter how long it takes, is the growth of my non-profit. My heart’s desire is that Corporate Girl Christ Minded will become the number one resource and community of hope for Professional women . I want to continue to grow our resources and connections so that we may help women all across the world be empowered and have hope to continue to thrive within a corporate world that at times seems hard to survive in. All it takes is that one resource , connection, and most importantly faith in God to completely change your life.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story that I hope people tell about me when I am gone is how consistent, loving, caring, present, dependable, and honest I was. I hope people remember how I put my all into everything that I do, whether I was singing, working through a tough ER related matter as a HR Professional, stopping to pray and talk through life with someone as a First Lady, offering resources and connections of hope to professional women I encounter as a non-profit Founder, or simply stopping to check on a close friend or family member. I hope they tell the story of how they could feel the love and passion in every word spoken or deed carried out by me. And they never had to second guess where I stood!
