We’re looking forward to introducing you to John Wayne colwell. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning John Wayne, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently I had the honor of collaborating and stage managing for Drifted Fest, DFW’s very first House & Techno festival at the Shack panther island. Our company JacksHouse worked with the organizers and Aftrlife Ent to book 45 local djs created & sponsored a 360 silent disco stage and I managed the main stage with 7 international acts. I felt extremely proud of this because not only was this first one and it was successful, but it was a massive community collaborative effort and goes to show what is possible when we all can work together!
Another achievement I’m really proud of is all the work we did for JacksHouse. Our Afters organization was recognized by the city as a valuable asset to the community and awarded the copper star from 24 hour dallas! We were able to get both dance permits and legally operated a very successful place for dancing afterhours downtown!!! This was one of the goto spots until it was burned down by an arsonist in January,
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Howdy, I,m John Wayne! I am a Family man, DJ, promoter, Event manager, consultant and partner in JacksHouse Dallas, Agnecy12, and organize events all over DFW specializing in the AfterHours market, with my Family and Friends. I have been in the Industry over 20 years and have experienced great highs, with same amount of lows! I love what I do and aim to get bigger and better as I continue on this path.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
I grew up around hard workers my whole life starting with my Dad, John Wayne sr. He did all kinds of jobs and worked long hours to raise 5 kids, My mom as well,as All of my uncles and when I grew up I surrounded myself with people that were always working on some kind of project or event! Idle hands are the devils playground my mom use to say,and she was right most people that get in trouble are bored and lazy, so I’ve always kept busy and will do so til the day I leave this earth.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
That, be prepared to carve out your own path, you will not follow the social norms and it will be hard but you got this and in the end you will have created something most people dream they could achieve, You will have a few people that want to see you fail but, plenty more that are rooting for you and support you. Your ability to turn tragedy into a come up is a rare gift when most take a hit and stay down you use it as fuel to launch new ideas and projects and keep it moving.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Rebuilding Jacks”s House and fun safe space to cutivate artists and creatives for the community!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Yes, I was born to entertain, and bring people together. I have a Bigger goal in mind that I have not quite accomplished to create bigger scale events, but I am working towards that as we speak.
