We’re looking forward to introducing you to Damien Green. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Damien , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I feel like I’m being called to go all in on our BBQ business and that used to terrify me. For a long time, I held on to my job as a barber because it felt safe and familiar. The idea of letting it go to fully focus on our business felt risky, what if it didn’t work out? But a year ago, I made the decision to walk away from that career and trust in what we were building as a family, and honestly, it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m now being called to lead with faith, to believe in our vision, and to keep pushing this dream forward even when it’s uncomfortable. It’s not just about cooking great food, it’s about building something real for our family and our community
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Damien Green, co-owner of a small family-run BBQ business based in Dallas, Texas. What started as a simple passion for good food and bringing people together has turned into something much bigger, a brand built on flavor, family, and community. My wife and I run this business side by side, and everything we do is rooted in love, tradition, and hustle.
A year ago, I took a big leap and left my career as a barber to go all in on this dream and it’s been the most rewarding and challenging experience of my life. We specialize handcrafted BBQ that reflects both of our roots. I’m from Dallas Texas and my wife is from San Diego California, so when we come together, we bring two different flavors and cultures to the table. That mix gives our food a unique twist that sets us apart.
Right now, we’re focused on expanding our reach, growing our brand, and staying true to what got us here — quality food, strong roots, and a whole lot of faith.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Honestly, it was God and my wife Maritza who saw me clearly before I could see myself. God had a plan for me long before I recognized it, and looking back, I can see how He placed the right people, moments, and challenges in my path to push me forward. And Maritza, she’s been my biggest supporter from day one. She saw my passion for cooking as something more than just a talent; she saw purpose in it. She believed this could be our family’s future, even when I was unsure. Her faith in me, along with God’s constant guidance, gave me the strength to believe in myself and take that first step toward building something bigger
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes! The moment I came closest to giving up was after the accident we had in November 2024. Everything came to a sudden stop. Our trailer and truck were totaled, we had to cancel events, and it felt like all the progress we worked so hard for was slipping through our fingers. It wasn’t just about business, it shook me mentally and emotionally. I started questioning everything. I wondered if this was a sign to stop, if maybe we had pushed too hard or gone too far.
But in that same season of doubt, God showed up. He reminded me that setbacks don’t mean stop, sometimes they’re just redirections. And Maritza, as always, stood by me and kept believing. Her strength during that time kept me grounded, and the support we got from our community reminded me why we started in the first place. That accident could’ve been the end of our story, but instead, it became a turning point, it made us come back even stronger and more focused
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’d say the public version of me is a big part of who I really am, but it’s not the whole story. When people see me at events or pop ups, they see the confident, hardworking guy passionate about BBQ and family and that’s definitely me. But behind the scenes, there’s a lot of vulnerability, doubt, and hard work that doesn’t always make it to the public eye.
I’m still learning every day how to balance being authentic with showing up strong for my family and customers. Sometimes I have to push through fear or exhaustion, and sometimes I’m quietly wrestling with challenges. So while the public version is the best version of me, the real me includes the struggles and growth that don’t always get shared.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
If I ever have regrets, one of the biggest will be not starting sooner. I spent a lot of time second guessing myself, playing it safe, and treating this like just a side hustle instead of fully stepping into what I was called to do. Looking back, I wish I had trusted God’s timing earlier and believed in myself the way others believed in me.
I’d also regret not going all the way with this, not giving it everything I’ve got. This isn’t just about BBQ; it’s about building something for my family, leaving a legacy, and showing my kids what it means to chase your purpose. So every day, I remind myself that I don’t want to look back and wonder ‘what if?’ I want to know that I gave it everything
