An Inspired Chat with Seus Ku of Sydney, Australia

We recently had the chance to connect with Seus Ku and have shared our conversation below.

Seus, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My day usually begins with a freshly brewed coffee—I enjoy grinding the beans and using a moka pot to start the morning with a little ritual. From there, I check emails and process orders for Oblong’s customers. Around 9AM, I make time for exercise, either swimming or going to the gym, which helps keep me focused and energised for the day. After lunch, I return to my desk to work on editing artwork or making adjustments to the website. By late afternoon, I take my two Italian Greyhounds for their daily walk, which is as much a routine for them as it is a chance for me to reset. Evenings are usually spent enjoying an early dinner, often cooked at home, with dining out reserved for special occasions.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a full-time long-haul flight attendant with Australia’s national carrier, and my work takes me across the globe—sometimes to four continents in just one roster. Along the way, I’ve turned my passion for photography and travel into Oblong Shop, a brand built on original imagery captured through my own lens. Each photograph in the collection tells a story, often inspired by the places I visit and the moments I experience while traveling. To bring that to life, I also create visual and video content so customers can see the process behind the scenes and connect with the story behind each piece. What makes Oblong special is its authenticity—every image is 100% original and rooted in real experiences. Today, our work is loved by customers worldwide, and we’re fortunate to collaborate with leading voices in the interior and home styling space. With exciting projects underway and more collaborations on the horizon, we’re looking forward to continuing to share our journey with an even wider audience.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would say it was my partner, both in life and in business. From the very beginning, he recognised something in my photography that I hadn’t yet seen in myself. While I struggled with self-doubt, he encouraged me to take my creativity seriously and even pushed me to pursue formal training. His belief in my potential helped me uncover a hidden skill that has since grown into both a passion and a business. That early support not only gave me confidence but also laid the foundation for what Oblong Shop has become today.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time when we were threatened with a court case over our business. It was an incredibly challenging moment that made us question everything. But instead of giving up, we chose to stand our ground. The experience taught us resilience, strengthened our values, and ultimately shaped who we are as a business today. Looking back, the reward of standing up for ourselves has been enormous—we’re proud of the integrity and strength that came from that challenge.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’d say the public version of me reflects certain aspects of who I am, but not everything. Through social media, I share my personality, creativity, and passion for what I do, while keeping personal beliefs—such as politics or religion—private. As the face of a business, I believe it’s important to create a space that feels inspiring and uplifting. My goal is to ensure that what I share publicly reflects positivity, creativity, and the values behind the brand, while reserving more personal matters for private life.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality were real, I would focus on building a lasting legacy—something that ensures people remember not just me, but the value of my work. Through my photography and creative projects, I would continue to build trust and create pieces that carry meaning. My hope is that my creativity will leave an enduring impression, living on in people’s memories long after I’m gone.
