Wenter Givens of DFW on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Wenter Givens shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Wenter, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Creating my niece’s 40th-day celebration cake was not only an honor, but a deeply meaningful milestone for me personally and professionally. To contribute something so heartfelt to mark the beginning of her new journey filled me with pride and gratitude. Moments like these remind me why I am passionate about what I do — being able to craft something beautiful that becomes part of a family’s most sacred memories.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Wenter, and I am the founder and creative force behind Just Cake’n, a boutique dessert brand dedicated to turning life’s sweetest moments into edible works of art. What started as a passionate hobby in my home kitchen has evolved into a growing business known for its unique flavor combinations, luxury-style cake designs, and artistic presentation. Each creation is handcrafted with intention, so our clients don’t just receive a dessert — they experience a memory.

At Just Cake’n, we believe desserts should taste as incredible as they look. From elegant custom cakes and dessert tables to celebratory treats for all occasions, our mission is to elevate milestones through sweetness, creativity, and soul. Currently, we are expanding our offerings, packaging, and reach — with the goal of bringing our signature touch of indulgence to a wider audience through curated catering, elevated pop-ups, and future storefront dreams.

Whether celebrating a milestone, launching a brand activation, or simply indulging a craving, Just Cake’n is where quality meets creativity — and every bite tells a story.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Before I ever believed in my own light, my friend Michael saw it shining in me — long before I had the confidence to see myself as he did.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. Around the five-year mark, I hit what felt like a breaking point. I had invested my heart, time, resources, and so much sacrifice into building this dream, and I truly expected the momentum to kick in much faster than it did. I thought I’d be further along, making a bigger impact, seeing more return, and when those expectations didn’t match my reality, the discouragement hit me hard. I started wondering if I had made a mistake, if I was delusional for believing I could turn my vision into something real.

There were moments where giving up felt like the logical option — where the exhaustion, the financial pressure, and the emotional rollercoaster had me questioning everything I once felt so sure about. But in that space of doubt, something powerful happened. I got quiet. I remembered why I started. I reminded myself of all the people I’ve inspired, the moments I’ve elevated, and the purpose behind this journey. Instead of quitting, I chose to shift — to realign, to evolve, and to recommit with even more intention.

Looking back, that season of wanting to give up became a turning point. It tested me, but it also refined me. It made me stronger, wiser, and more grounded in my mission. Some people think the dream ends when it gets hard — I discovered that’s actually where it truly begins

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I deeply admire my oldest daughter, Adrianna, not for any external power or success she’s obtained — but for the strength of her character. As the owner of Events by Adrianna in Denton, Texas, she leads her business and her life with a level of grace, integrity, and discipline that leaves me in awe. She is dedicated, consistent, humble, and intentional in everything she touches. What inspires me most is not just the fact that she creates beautiful events — but the way she carries herself while doing it. She treats everyone with respect, moves through challenges with resilience, and shows up even when no one is clapping.

Adrianna has a quiet strength about her that I’ve watched mature over the years — a strength rooted in faith, determination, and genuine love for what she does. Rather than waiting for opportunities, she builds them. Instead of chasing power, she cultivates purpose. Watching her navigate life as a woman, mother, entrepreneur, and leader reminds me daily of what’s possible. She embodies so much of who I aspire to be — not just in my career, but in my spirit — and it fills me with pride to say that I strive to be more like her.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
What I understand deeply, in a way that I think many people struggle to grasp, is that meaningful growth and true success take time. It won’t happen overnight, no matter how much you wish it would. Life doesn’t move according to our schedules or expectations — it moves in its own rhythm, and the lessons we need often come in moments we’re least prepared for.

I’ve learned that patience isn’t passive; it’s active. It’s showing up day after day, putting in the work, even when results feel invisible. It’s trusting that every struggle, every delay, every small victory is quietly building the foundation for something far greater than I can yet see. Most people rush or get discouraged when they don’t see immediate progress, but the deeper truth is that the process itself is where transformation happens.

I’ve come to embrace the waiting, the unfolding, and the small steps, knowing that every moment is preparing me — not just for success, but for the person I need to become to truly hold it. Understanding this has given me patience, humility, and a sense of peace in the journey, even when the road feels long.
