We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gulnaz Rehman. Check out our conversation below.
Gulnaz, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Watching my kids blossom into little adults and seeing their personalities shine fills me with pride and joy. They carry some traits of my husband and me, yet each has their own unique and wonderful qualities. I’m so proud to be their mom and to witness the amazing individuals they are becoming. They make me laugh out loud every single day and humble me in ways nothing else could. These moments and feelings are truly priceless, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Gulnaz, an American-born Pakistani, raised with deep cultural roots and a strong sense of family. Growing up in Miami, a city full of vibrant cultures and diverse styles, shaped both who I am and the vision for my brand. Coming from a Muslim background, I learned early on to navigate fashion in a way that honored my faith while embracing trends, which made my creative journey both exciting and meaningful.
I’ve always loved clothes—fabrics, colors, and the art of styling—and over the years, that passion only grew stronger. After ten years of marriage, my family and I moved to Dallas, Texas. My husband recognized my love for fashion and encouraged me to start a modest clothing brand, seeing a real need in the community. At the time, I never imagined that what began as a small venture creating basic abayas for women performing their pilgrimage to Mecca would grow into a thriving, trendy boutique with customers across the United States.
Modest Now is my passion and my pride. It has allowed me to combine creativity with purpose—helping women dress modestly in beautiful, stylish ways. I am truly blessed to do what I love, build something meaningful, and make a positive impact along the way.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I have always been a hometown girl, and Florida will always feel like home to me. Leaving my family behind to move to Dallas, Texas with my husband and kids was a huge shift—it pushed me out of my comfort zone and challenged me to grow in ways I hadn’t anticipated. Suddenly, I was navigating a new city, meeting new people, and building a life in an unfamiliar environment. It wasn’t easy at first, but the experience helped me grow as a person and broadened my perspective. Leaving your comfort zone can be daunting, but in my experience, it shapes not only who you are but also how you see the world.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
Now in my 40s, I view life through a different lens—one that has taught me the importance of protecting my peace. Over the years, I’ve faced situations where I had to set boundaries, and I’ve realized just how essential this is for our well-being. While it’s important to be there for the people we love, there are some challenges and circumstances we cannot control. Guarding our peace is vital for our health, growth, and maintaining a positive mindset. This isn’t about being selfish; it’s about honoring yourself and prioritizing your mental and emotional well-being. Truly, protecting your peace is one of the most important things a person can do for themselves.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! I’ve never been someone to put on a front. What you see is truly who I am—that’s the real Gulnaz.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The thing about life is that people don’t always remember the exact place, time, or details—but they always remember how you made them feel. My hope is to be remembered as someone who brought warmth and positivity, someone whose presence left others feeling good and uplifted.
