Jeremy Dick of Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jeremy Dick. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
SquareDash. Most people know me for plants and art, but SquareDash was the thing that changed everything for me behind the scenes. I built it to fix real problems for contractors and service companies, and it taught me how to take an idea from nothing to something that lasts. The patent I earned from it, for electronic document parsing, means a lot to me because it’s proof of the grind and the brainwork nobody saw. That same mindset is what I use now to build The Plant Lady.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jeremy Dick, co-owner of The Plant Lady. We design and maintain living walls, custom plant setups, and greenery that feels alive and intentional and what makes us different is how we mix plant science, design, and care. Every project is built to last, not just to look good for a week. Outside of this, I’m also an artist. I have a clothing line now available at Betterdick.com. Plus, I am very humbled and proud to say that I have 5 pieces submitted to a major charity auction this month. Not to forget that in my spare time I’m working on the Plant Pulse App, a system to keep plant care smart and simple not just for us Pros, but for everyone else a well.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds break when we stop being curious about each other. When pride, ego, and silence get in the way, even the strongest connection starts to fade. I’ve seen it in my own life. What restores them is showing up, being present, owning your shit, and choosing to see someone for who they are instead of who you want them to be. It’s hard. But just like with plants, if you give the relationship what it needs and stay patient, it can grow back stronger. Sometimes you have to prune yourself in order to grow to your full potential, both apart and together.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I’ve been stuck between two fears. One is being abandoned. The other is what happens if I really succeed. I’ve held myself back thinking that if I go too far, I’ll leave people behind or outgrow them, especially the ones who’ve inspired me the most. And I’ve played small to avoid that. I’m learning that real bonds don’t break when you grow. The right people want you to shine.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
A lot of smart people get stuck thinking they’re right and stop evolving. They refuse to change their minds when new information comes along or won’t touch new technology because they’re scared of looking wrong. Being smart doesn’t mean much if you can’t adapt. The world is moving fast. Real intelligence is staying curious and willing to learn, even when it means starting over.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What light inside you have you been dimming?
I’ve been dimming my shine for years because I believed people who told me it wasn’t there. I stopped trusting my own voice. But that light never left. Now I’m letting it burn again—through my work, my art, and just not apologizing for who I am anymore.
