We recently had the chance to connect with Heather Levy~Dick and have shared our conversation below.
Heather, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I would definitely hire me.
I wish I could!
Not only am I polite, punctual and hard working but I really care about what I spend my time and energy on and always try to do an excellent job. It can actually be kind of annoying…lol!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I am the artist Heather Levy-Dick.
I was born artistic and have had the pleasure to explore Art on many levels my whole life .
I enjoy painting, filmmaking and sculpting the most.
I love to travel and dream in French.
I earned my BA degree from Emerson College majoring in Film.
I worked in NYC in a variety of filmmaking positions, including editor.
I have been focused on painting since 2000 and I am still so excited to see where my Art will take me next!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
One of the first film editing related jobs I had was that of intern on this amazing project titled,”The United States of Poetry”. I was so excited,
I remember walking into the edit suite and there was the editor, the director and a few assistants, I came in, took off my coat, ready for action! The director and editor decided they needed some coffee… that was me… I had to put my jacket back on and take their orders… I did it with a smile and went on to have one of the best work experiences of my life!
It taught me humility and to do great work no matter what the task is.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
In the year 2000 I had a lucrative editing career when I decided to focus on painting full time.
I had a friend
(She had studied Art in Italy
with the masters!) tell me how she thought I had something special and not everyone can paint like me and
I thought, yeah, why not me! So I left the editing world and have been on this amazing journey ever since! Thank you Annabel!🩷
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I think the tennis player Roger Federer is a prime example of a really good character . He seems all at once elegant, down to earth, intense and kind.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I am most at peace when I am creating.
I practice the loss of sense of self method of painting and it is as deep as meditation.
I let the music (must have music) and colors take me away and when I come back it is always interesting to see what I’ve created!
