An Inspired Chat with Mandy Montane of Dallas

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mandy Montane. Check out our conversation below.

Mandy, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Writing and singing. When I write stories, I’m instantly catapulted into a world outside of reality. Whether it’s fantasy land where mermaids and fairies exist or a Jane Austen inspired romance, my imagination takes me everywhere then back to my inner child where I love to be.
My singing transforms me into my twelve-year-old self where my imagination abounds and there’s no limit to what I can do or who I am.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
A proud graduate of Oklahoma State University, Certified Jack Canfield Coach and storyteller, I write stories that inspire the imagination. Worlds filled with mythical creatures, magic and wonder. My published works include Sarena of Beca & Sarena and the Lost Princess: Legend of the Mermadians. Future projects include a coming-of-age fairytale, a Jane Austen influenced novel & Sarena and the Black Diamond. In my spare time, I sing with my church’s worship group and write songs. I’ve recorded two original songs, Angel Wings and Old Red. Additional passions include playing kickball with my three dogs: Wolfie, Lucy Lou Who and Baby Gravy. I enjoy creating workshops for Gen Z and the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. I’m a grateful Rotarian and Gardner.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My husband. He introduced me to goal setting and mentors like Jack Canfield, Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, and Tony Robbins sending me down a path of self-discovery and growth.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When my daughter was a toddler, I was diagnosed with Limited Scleroderma and CREST Syndrome. In 2016, I almost died in renal, heart and lung failure, spending thirty-one days in ICU, I was diagnosed with Systemic Scleroderma, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and Interstitial Lung Disease. When I returned home, I had to learn to breathe on my own, walk, shower, and groom myself again. I lost my job, my physical abilities and freedom. My reality had changed in an instant to one living with a chronic disease. The illness gave me a new lease on life. A few years after my diagnosis, I made a decision to live each moment to the fullest, pushing through my debilitating pain and never taking for granted my life again. My dreams of becoming an author, singer and teacher were still very much alive in me.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
God exists and I wouldn’t be alive without Him. Faith is everything to me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Mandy was a strong woman of faith who served God with her whole heart and helped bring many people to Christ. A sensitive, kind-hearted mother, wife, daughter and person, she loved, laughed and lived life to the fullest. Mandy inspired others with her stories and songs to believe in themselves, to love themselves and to pursue their goals.
