Community Highlights: Meet Todd & Michelle Dicken of White Oak Engraving

Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd & Michelle Dicken.

Hi Todd & Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After I (Todd) lost my job of 14 years, I saw it as an opportunity to take a new path and work for myself. I spent countless hours learning the design software and mastering the laser machine. With my hands-on skills and Michelle’s creative eye, we quickly became the perfect duo for bringing unique ideas to life. What started with orders from family soon grew into setting up booths at local markets, where we began connecting with our community and growing our small business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of our biggest challenges was figuring out the balance between what we enjoy creating and what the community actually wants to purchase. In the beginning, we offered basic engraved items, but over time we phased out pieces that weren’t desirable or cost-effective. What we’ve always been committed to, though, is creating unique items you won’t find anywhere else—and that vision continues to guide us.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At White Oak Engraving, we specialize in custom laser-engraved travel maps from National Parks and sports to off-road adventures and even the 7 Wonders of the World. What sets us apart is our focus on originality. We’re always looking for ways to design pieces you won’t find anywhere else. We’re most proud of how our brand reflects both creativity and craftsmanship. We want people to know that when you support our business, you’re helping us keep doing what we love—creating meaningful, high-quality pieces for our customers.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I (Todd) was the jokester, into sports, band, and skateboarding. While Michelle, on the other hand, was the quiet and shy one, drawn to art, music, and band. We met in high school, and our mix of skills and interests has been key to how we run our business.
