Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Pryor.
Hi Lindsay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always felt a passion for helping others, and this has been my main calling in life. While working for an insurance company long ago that serviced AARP members, I felt I could be doing more for that population, rather than just saving them money. Jump to nearly 20 years later, I now have been in the field of nursing and have held various positions within it, including joining the army part-time, working in the private sector, and most importantly, helping my fellow military veterans by working at the VA hospital. I had been working for the Veterans Affairs as a nurse recruiter most recently, but have separated from the position there to pursue my current passion, which is creating spice blends and mixes. I have a knack for seasoning food with original flavor ideas, and this was pointed out to me by family and friends. This encouraged me to start mixing spices myself and create a business out of it. Going through midlife myself, I felt that I would love to make fun of how we view how our bodies are coping with aging. I really enjoy making people laugh, so I decided to make a whole spice line with funny names correlating to the trying times of having a midlife crisis. Even more recently, I also created my healing blend mixtures that speak to the signs of the zodiac. These gourmet seasonings have labels that give each sign of the zodiac a reminder of their positive attributes, along with affirmations to help uplift the soul.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a new business without any idea of how to market it has been the biggest challenge. Being highly present in social media, creating a shoppable website, trying to master what types of seasonings people will buy, and trying to decide which vendor events to sell at have all been some of the obstacles I have encountered. Trying to wear all the hats of a business without employees to help is not only a huge undertaking but is very time-consuming.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about mid life crysis spices?
A proud Army Veteran-owned company that sells gourmet seasonings and rubs that offer a few spices that can also be used as dips. I have uniquely named each spice blend to highlight the trying times of having a midlife crisis, making my product have a funny flair. I have also created a spice line dedicated to the zodiac called Healing Blends that contains some spices to help with the consumer’s health. Nearly all of my spice blends are gluten and MSG free. I used my creative background as an artist to create all my labels. My products aim to bring innovative culinary flavor to my customers’ kitchens. What sets me apart from the other seasoning brands is the novelty and gift aspect that these spices can be bought for. I also offer the larger bottles with a strong price point that other spice companies may not provide. I am currently set up at Venus Market in the town of Venus. I have my product at Mosaic Market in Arlington. Customers can purchase my zodiac spice line at Hearth Wisdom metaphysical store in Pantego.
Brand-wise, I am proud to say that I have made many people laugh when they visit my booth or simply look at the name of my company.
Something to note of importance is that Mid Life Crysis Spices takes a part of their proceeds to donate to local Veteran and Animal Welfare programs. We have fast shipping from our online store and can deliver as well. Pick up is also available for our customers.
How do you think about luck?
A strong community of other vendors and small businesses has been supportive of my endeavor.
