Today we’d like to introduce you to Tram Hoang.
Hi Tram, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We had been running a nail salon for about five years, but opening a boba shop had always been a dream of mine. When I was expecting my second baby, I realized I wanted to spend more time with her and also do something that felt more personal and fulfilling. That’s when I knew it was finally the right time to pursue this dream.
I’m very grateful to have such a supportive husband. The moment I shared my idea with him, he didn’t hesitate. As a general contractor, he jumped right in—he found a location for us and started building the shop himself.
That’s really how Haus of Boba began—through passion, family support, and the belief that we could create something special for our community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When we first opened, I was nine months pregnant with my second baby. I still remember standing all day for two weeks straight to train new employees, and then going into labor right after. We had to close the shop for just one day before opening again.
Not long after, we faced our first big challenge—crazy Texas weather. We opened in February, and by March it was freezing, raining, and even snowing with ice storms. We really couldn’t afford to close, so with my husband’s help we kept the shop running. Even though business was slow during those days, we were grateful for every customer who came in.
On top of that, our area has frequent power outages. Every time it rained, it seemed like our electricity would go out. Luckily, my husband was able to get a generator set up, which allowed us to stay open when every other business in the plaza was closed.
It’s been challenging, but those early struggles really taught us resilience and reinforced the importance of having each other’s support. At the end of the day, that teamwork is what has kept us going.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Haus of Boba, we specialize in boba tea, but our menu goes far beyond that. One of the things we’re most proud of is our authentic Vietnamese coffee. What sets us apart is the way we prepare our drinks—we freshly brew all of our teas and coffees to order. Using a tea espresso machine, every cup starts with a fresh tea bag or fresh coffee grounds, so our customers always get the best quality and consistency.
We also take a lot of pride in our matcha. We use ceremonial-grade matcha, which makes a huge difference in both flavor and quality—you can really taste the difference in every sip. Beyond that, our menu has something for everyone: smoothies, fruit teas, milk teas, coffee, and even fresh-squeezed sugarcane juice that we press daily.
But drinks are just the start. We also offer a wide range of desserts and snacks that make us a fun destination for friends and families. From bubble waffles with soft-serve on top, to croffles (croissant waffles), taiyaki filled with everything from Nutella to custard, and even Korean-inspired waffle corndogs—there’s always something new to try. For those craving something savory, we also serve bao buns, with our barbecue pork bao being a customer favorite, as well as classic Vietnamese bánh mì sandwiches with pork or chicken.
What we’re most proud of is being a place where everyone can find something they love. Whether you’re here for a quick coffee, a sweet treat, or a spot to hang out with family and friends on the weekend, Haus of Boba has it all. More than just a shop, we want people to feel welcome and cared for every time they walk through our doors.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We just want to take a moment to say how much we appreciate everyone who has supported our business. We know our location isn’t in the busiest area, but we’ve worked hard to create a menu that truly has something for everyone. From fresh-brewed teas and coffee to matcha, smoothies, desserts, and savory bites, we focus on using fresh ingredients and making sure everything we serve is high quality.
At the end of the day, we’re a small family-owned business, and every customer who walks through our doors means the world to us. We’d love for readers to come visit, try something new, and be part of our Haus of Boba community.
