Hidden Gems: Meet Michael Lewis of AML Homes LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Lewis.

Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Not sure if this is brief enough, there is a lot to my story

I grew up in a small town in North Texas, and my life has always been built on grit and resilience. For almost two decades I rode bulls, with many of those years spent traveling professionally across states and countries. Bull riding taught me a lot about getting back up after being knocked down, which has carried over into every part of my life.

After 9/11 I joined the U.S. Navy, where I served during Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. My time in the military gave me discipline, perspective, and a strong sense of mission. When I returned home, I went into construction and design, where I learned to turn ideas into reality through blueprint design and building.

That skill set eventually opened the door to real estate. In the early days, it wasn’t easy — I even remember having to hide my truck until I could make the payment. Instead of giving up, I used that moment as fuel to push harder, keep learning, and build something lasting. Today, as the owner of AML Homes LLC and AML Design & Construction, I’ve been fortunate to invest in, renovate, and sell millions of dollars’ worth of real estate while helping property owners find solutions to their toughest challenges.

Even now, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, I continue to work as hard as ever — not just for myself, but to serve others, provide solutions, and keep building a legacy that lasts.

My journey has been far from a straight line, but that’s what makes it real. Each step — from the rodeo arena to the Navy, from construction sites to closing tables — has shaped the way I approach life and business: with persistence, creativity, and a drive to serve others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. My journey has been full of challenges — some personal, some professional, and many that tested me in both ways. I’ve dealt with glaringly obvious birth defect (cleft lip and palate), serious injuries, multiple surgeries, and the long-term effects of serving in the military. Over the years I’ve faced anxiety, depression, and even moments that I look back and swear they were nervous breakdowns. Those battles were real, but they also forced me to dig deeper and find new ways to push forward.
The entrepreneurial road hasn’t been easy either. Early on, I had to hide my truck until I could make the payment — and while that might sound small, at the time it was the difference between keeping my dream alive or giving up. I’ve started businesses with a literal $200 budget, worked through deals that fell apart, and carried the weight of responsibility when things didn’t go as planned.
On top of that, I’m now facing prostate cancer. But even with that diagnosis, I’m still working as hard as ever — building my businesses, helping property owners, and taking care of my family.
What I’ve learned is that the road doesn’t have to be smooth for it to lead somewhere good. Each setback has shaped me into someone more resilient, more resourceful, and more committed to serving others. For me, the struggles aren’t the end of the story — they’re the reason I’m able to keep writing the next chapter.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
AML Homes LLC is a real estate solutions company built on service, integrity, and creativity. We specialize in helping property owners who feel stuck — whether it’s an inherited home, a property in disrepair, or a financial situation that makes selling difficult. What sets us apart is that we don’t just make offers, we bring solutions. Every homeowner’s situation is unique, and we work to create win–win outcomes that relieve stress and move people forward.

Unlike larger, impersonal companies, AML Homes LLC takes a personal, small–town approach. I sit down with sellers, listen to their story, and figure out what works best for them. Sometimes that means buying the property directly, sometimes it means helping them explore other options — but it always means treating people with honesty and respect.

Brand–wise, I’m most proud that AML Homes is known as a trusted, local name. I didn’t come into this business with a big budget or years of experience in real estate — I built it from the ground up, learning every step of the way. That grit, combined with my background in blueprint design and construction, means I can see potential in properties where others only see problems.

At the end of the day, AML Homes LLC isn’t just about buying houses — it’s about helping people solve problems, improving neighborhoods, and creating new opportunities. That’s what I want readers to know: if you’re facing a property challenge, we’re here to help you find a way forward.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’d say luck has played a role in both directions. I’ve definitely had my share of bad luck — injuries, setbacks, financial struggles, and even medical diagnoses that could have stopped me in my tracks. There were times I felt like life was throwing one challenge after another, and it would’ve been easy to walk away.

But I’ve also been blessed with good luck in the form of opportunities and timing. Sometimes it was meeting the right person at the right time, finding the right property, or even just being given a second chance when things didn’t go as planned.

The way I see it, luck may show up, but it’s what you do with it that matters. Bad luck can fuel determination, and good luck only helps if you’re prepared to act on it. My businesses — AML Homes LLC and AML Homes Design & Construction — exist today not because I relied on luck, but because I learned how to keep moving forward regardless of whether the breaks were going my way or not.

In the end, luck comes and goes, but persistence is what lasts.
