We recently had the chance to connect with Alexis M. and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Alexis , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are quiet calm moments to ease into the day. I wake up, stretch, and give thanks for the new day. Grab a warm cup of coffee or Matcha tea then head to my laptop and MacBook to get the day started.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Alexis M. Corporate Entrepreneur, mother, and owner of all things under the TRUE brand originally from Memphis, Tennessee now residing in the DFW Metroplex. I created the TRUE brand as a vehicle to remind people to remain TRUE to themselves. The brand encompasses, fashion, financial, fitness, foodie, and flying from destination to destination in pursuit of doing the things I love, which will hopefully motivate my community to do so also. What makes my brand unique is in a world that tries to tell us how to think, be, and what to strive for as success. My brand encourages you to be honest with your own thoughts, who you are and want to be, and what you dictate as success for you because we are all so very different. Be TRUE to you.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My entire village growing up taught me the most about work. The funny thing is no one ever explained it. It was something that they did. I saw my father go to work, I saw my mom work even on days she should’ve been resting, I saw the mothers and fathers in my village attend to the needs of their children, and I have not even one memory of anyone complaining about it. You do what needs to be done to take care of you and the ones you love is the message I received without the message ever being verbally spoken.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There’s never been a time when I’ve almost given up and I can say that with full confidence. Over the years, I faced challenges and obstacles that I figured out how to overcome. Giving up is never an option. We don’t give up. We figure it out and keep going.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I can’t have a brand built on being TRUE and not be TRUE to myself so no, there’s not a public version of me and the real version of me. I like to say that who we are in part does shift depending on who we are around; however, in all instances, in all of my interactions, my values, my character, and who I am does not change. I’m truly who I am in each moment.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I’m around people I love and I know who genuinely love me too. Whether that be with my family, my friends, or my work groups being around good genuine people brings me peace, even if at times that good genuine person that I am with is myself. I feel so much peace in knowing that I am living in my purpose and doing those things that contribute to it.
