Good morning David, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
First-Loyalty, Second-Persistence, Third-Tenacity

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am David Hitchings and I am the owner/operator of Butcher Blox. We specialize in building high-end, handcrafted cutting boards right here in North Texas. Every board is carefully crafted with precision and attention to detail, making it both a functional tool and a statement piece for the kitchen. We offer a wide selection of custom designs tailored to our customers’ needs, as well as a curated inventory available for quick purchase. Whether you’re looking for a unique gift, a centerpiece for your kitchen, or a board built to your exact specifications, Butcher Blox delivers quality, craftsmanship, and style.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents taught me the value of hard work and the importance of earning what you want in life. From a very young age, I worked alongside them helping to build homes, and that’s where my work ethic truly began. While my parents were excellent providers with what they had, they instilled in me a lasting lesson: if I wanted something in life, I had to work for it — nothing would ever simply be handed to me.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I’d have to say my biggest challenge has been my reluctance to step out on a limb and take risks. You often read about millionaires and billionaires who have taken big chances—sometimes failing or even going bankrupt—only to come back stronger the next time. Change can be a powerful force for growth, but it’s easy to fall into comfort zones and play it safe.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
In my lifetime, I’ve been a firm believer in loyalty, dedication, and striving for perfection in whatever I do. If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right—no shortcuts, no compromises, and always delivering exactly what I promise. To me, “handcrafted” means something has been built with meticulous care and attention to detail. I will never send something out the door that wasn’t built with the full intent of perfection.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am a firm believer that the good Lord leads us in the direction we’re meant to go. I believe everything is predetermined, and because of that, I know I’m doing what I was born to do. My work with cutting boards is more than just a craft—it’s a way to leave a legacy that will last long after I’m gone. Many customers have told me they plan to pass my boards down through their families, and nothing makes me prouder. To know that something I’ve created will remain in this world as a tangible good long after I’m gone is the greatest reward.
