Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Courtney Alabi-Isama of Dallas

We recently had the chance to connect with Courtney Alabi-Isama and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
What’s most important to me is to always have integrity. No matter what I’m doing or how I’m doing it I always try to have and keep my integrity.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a mom, partner to my spouse and a proud small business owner. I created Grand Creations by CoCo to give people affordable party decor and setup options that look great but won’t break your pockets. I feel my business is unique because whether I’m creating a treat box or decorating a party you will always get a unique and stress free experience. I’m currently revamping my business and will be having some new party options soon.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment that really shaped how I see the world and really changed me to the core was my grandfathers passing in 2013. I’ve experienced loss at a young age but the passing of my biggest supporter in life changed how I view the world and people in general.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self, you got this and you always will. Trust in God and he will always see you through all things that look like they will break you. You are stronger than you feel and braver than you ever will know.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to always believe once I started a business everyone I knew would be happy for me and fully support me. I found out throughout the years that’s not always the case. You have to be your biggest supporter. You can’t depend on who will support your business. The business and support will come, it might just not be from the people you think.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope the story people tell when I’m gone is that I was a legend. I love my family, I love my community and I’ve always been someone that was big on those values.
