Jackie Corney’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We recently had the chance to connect with Jackie Corney and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jackie, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
WAIT 48!

The premise behind Wait 48 is straightforward: when I sense an intense emotional surge, I hold off on any major decisions or reactions for 48 hours. This period isn’t about suppressing or ignoring feelings; instead, it’s about giving myself the time and space needed to reflect and process the situation without the pressure of immediate action.

Why 48 hours?

In those 48 hours, two common outcomes have emerged:

The Issue Fizzles Out: Sometimes, the strong emotions subside, and the problem that initially seemed so urgent loses its intensity. What once felt like a pressing issue fades away, leaving me with a clearer perspective.

A Calm, Informed Decision: If the emotional charge remains, the waiting period allows me to approach the situation—or the person involved—with a cooler head. Instead of reacting impulsively, I can engage more thoughtfully and calmly.

The benefits of implementing a Wait 48 approach are significant:

Reduced Regret: By delaying a reaction, I avoid decisions made in the heat of the moment—decisions that can often lead to regret.

Increased Self-Awareness: The waiting period allows me to understand the root of my emotions. This self-awareness is key to personal growth and emotional intelligence.

Improved Relationships: Addressing situations calmly can lead to more constructive conversations and better outcomes in relationships. It’s easier to communicate effectively when emotions aren’t running rampant.

I am proud of Wait 48 and have had incredible feedback from friend and followers who actually practice it. It is not easy but it makes for a much easier life when you work it.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Jackie Corney, Founder of Moxie Tales®️

Moxie Tales, a fashion storytelling company, was founded in 2020 to combine my lifelong passions for connection, storytelling, fashion, change & purpose. Through a series of interesting events that occurred between 2017-2019 personally and professionally, I found myself in the midst of fashion, copywriting, charitable organizations, family addiction recovery, and storytelling. These seismic, life altering events led me to pursue my true purpose.

I believe that every day when you get dressed, you are telling a story. What story are you currently telling? What story do you want to tell? Most importantly, are you open, vulnerable, and ready to tell your new story?

Moxie Tales’ company mission is to help you tell, build, and deliver moxie to YOUR story. Our growing collection of carefully curated accessories were handpicked and designed with YOU in mind.

“Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!”

Ms. Frizzle, The Magic School Bus

Founded in May 2020 and constantly evolving, at Moxie Tales’ core is the essence of individuality, self expression, and storytelling through fashion. Most of the jewelry in our store is one of a kind which keeps things interesting. We are currently working on custom college spirit collections starting with Clemson University and Ole Miss which is an exciting new venture for us.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Wow, this is a great question! I have Peter Pan syndrome! I will not and cannot grow up. I have always been the person I am today. I think as I got older, my creative side came out more, but other than that, Moxie could have been my birth name. I say what is on my mind and always tell the truth when asked a question. What I do find interesting is when people that know me get offended when I give them a straight answer and they don’t like what they hear. If you want a sugar coated answer, go ask someone else, not me!

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wounds of my life came from being the mother of an addict. I have healed them through years of therapy,
Al-Anon meetings, Wait 48, exercise, being quiet, and drawing boundaries. Rather than avoiding the pain, I walked through it and continue to walk through it.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
The “big idea” behind Moxie Tales®️, which is to empower women to wear what makes them feel beautiful and powerful, while not worrying about what other people think of them. I plan to spend my lifetime doing it.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story of Moxie Tales! I hope that this brand becomes inextricably tied to my legacy.
