Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Scott.
Hi Stephen , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was stationed in Europe during my time in the Army, I had the opportunity to build relationships with top trainers in Germany, Holland, and France. Over the five years I was there, I learned directly from them and gained a deep understanding of the foundations of European dog training. These were relationships and opportunities that most Americans could only dream of—providing access to dogs from elite trainers and breeders.
After leaving the military, I became a sheriff’s deputy and later a K9 handler. Before long, I was promoted to head trainer for my department. From there, I founded Scott’s K9 and began supplying police dogs. We secured government contracts across the Middle East, providing bomb-detection dogs, and also supplied police departments throughout the United States.
Over time, I began receiving more and more requests from people wanting family protection dogs. About 15 years ago, we sold our first one, and demand quickly grew. I saw a clear need for a dog that could perform real protection work at the level of a police dog while still being safe, reliable, and well-suited for family life. After years of refining our approach, I believe we’ve developed a dog that is truly top-notch—surpassing what anyone else can provide.
We intentionally keep our numbers small, training only around 25 dogs a year. Each dog is hand-delivered personally by myself and one of my trainers. We’ve been fortunate to see the business grow rapidly while maintaining the highest standards in both training and care.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with any business, there is always a learning curve, and it takes time to truly understand how to excel in your industry. Our guiding principle has always been: dogs come first, clients come second, and the business comes third. We’ve remained committed to that philosophy, and it has served us well over the years. Today, we are proud to be recognized as one of the leading providers of elite protection dogs worldwide, and we take great pride in both our product and the service we deliver to our clients.
