Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Martinez Portes.
Hi Carlos, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my career at the Tax Administration in the Dominican Republic, where I received specialized training in taxation from the U.S. Treasury Department and Italy’s Guardia di Finanza. Later, I founded my own tax firm in the Dominican Republic, which quickly grew to serve clients both locally and internationally, including in the United States. Seeing the potential for expansion, we launched our operations through the Paramount Tax franchise.
It has been a journey filled with challenges and ups and downs, but by God’s grace, we have continued to earn recognition and, most importantly, the trust of our clients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has been a road full of ups and downs—adapting to the market, understanding clients’ needs, and handling the high demands that come with tax season. Building a qualified team that can deliver quality service both during and outside of tax season has been a significant challenge, but thanks to God, we have been able to move forward. At times, it has been very difficult, but when you have a clear goal in mind and place it in God’s hands, everything eventually falls into place favorably.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Paramount Tax is a national franchise dedicated to providing specialized tax and accounting services. At our Southlake office, which I own, our focus is on truly understanding our clients’ needs—we never see them as just another number. We care about their financial and tax situation, and we work to help them clearly understand their returns while showing them, within the bounds of the law, what steps they can take to reduce their tax liability at year’s end.
What sets us apart is the way we build genuine relationships with our clients. We become not only their advisors but also their allies and friends. This personalized approach has allowed us to earn strong recognition and trust. At Paramount Tax & Bookkeeping – Southlake, we believe that taxes can often feel stressful or even overwhelming, and our mission is to transform that stressful moment into a worry-free experience.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I like to stay up to date through courses and publications prepared by the AICPA. At Paramount Tax, we also hold regular meetings where franchisees from across the country share their experiences. This exchange allows us to better understand the current needs of our clients and to work toward providing clear, practical solutions for each one.
On a personal level, I have always found my source of inspiration in the Bible, especially in the book of Proverbs. I believe it is a book filled with wisdom—one that helps you understand human behavior and teaches you how to build stronger, healthier relationships with the people around you.
