Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Carter.
Kayla, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a full time junior high school teacher, but I was getting burnt out and felt like I needed to do something more. I have always loved permanent jewelry, but in our area, there isn’t much of an option unless you drive into downtown Fort Worth and make an appointment. I decided that if I could train myself to do permanent jewelry and really research everything that is involved (and talk my husband into it), then I would start my own business locally for everyone who loves permanent jewelry but doesn’t want to drive or make appointments they have to commit to! As soon as I told my husband my idea, he said, “Go for it!” We came up with my business name Infinity Bar together one day while we were sitting at our own bar at home. I said that I liked the word infinity because that’s what permanent jewelry is-it’s never ending because there is no clasp and it’s permanent. He liked using the word bar because he said, “Who doesn’t like going to any kind of bar and picking whatever they want!” So that’s how Infinity Bar became my side business and my passion!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It really has been pretty smooth. Obviously, at the beginning of anything new, you have to adjust to things that work and things that don’t-which got ironed out pretty quickly. The biggest struggle was making sure I was getting my name out there and really advertising for myself. My degree is in Advertising/Public Relations, so I felt like I really could use that to help promote myself and business. It has been an amazing journey so far and very fullfilling and profitable! I think it’s all about knowing your audience and knowing your area you are trying to reach. Because there isn’t really anyone out here doing permanent jewelry, I am getting all of the business in our local area. I am blessed with the best customers!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a permanent jewelry artist that specializes in all types of jewelry that is soddered on at the time of the visit. We offer bracelets, anklets, necklaces, rings, and even hand chains. We only use 14K Gold and Sterling Silver so that is doesn’t tarnish and will last years! I think our customer service is what sets us apart from everyone else. We have many customers who are looking for something specific, and we do special orders for those customers if we don’t have what they are looking for in stock. We also do free rewelds if they have to be taken off for an MRI or surgeries, so customers know they are buying a lifetime piece of jewelry from us. I am proud of how fast we have grown and how happy our customers are with their jewelry. It’s not just a piece of jewelry from us, it’s getting to know our customers on a personal level and their story too. It feels very personal with everyone who sits down in our chair.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice for anyone starting out would be to join all types of Facebook/Instagram groups. There is a big community out there that is super helpful with anything that might pop up. I spent hours reading through posts on different permanent jewelry community groups, and I learned so much from everyone. There are issues that pop up that you have no idea how to handle it, and someone has gone through it already and has found the answer. So , just immerse yourself in it and keep trying to learn from experts who have already made mistakes!
