Daily Inspiration: Meet Eric Loop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Loop.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Officially, Loop Music Academy began back in 2024 when the business launched. However, the true beginning goes all the way back to my childhood. I always grew up with music around, listening and playing. I began playing piano at a young age, followed by guitar, bass guitar, and more shortly after. I went to college at UT Austin and began joining bands and refining my skills as a musician. I also got my business degree at the McCombs School of Business, where my passion for entrepreneurship first took root. When I would come back to my hometown, Coppell, I would teach guitar lessons as a side hobby. Quickly, I realized that I loved teaching and that there was an unmet need in the market. So many kids and adults wanted to learn an instrument, but many were overwhelmed at the traditional methods of teaching.

Fast forward to years later, this simple idea of redesigning traditional music instruction methods has caught on like wildfire to the communities we serve (Dallas, Austin, and online communities). The Loop Music Academy officially launched in 2024, as an alternative to frustrating guitar/bass lesson options. LMA uses it’s song-first approach to bring beginners faster results. We teach musicians fundamentals while learning their favorite songs. It inspires passion and keeps them coming back to the instrument. It leads to promising results faster than the traditional methods.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I’ve always had faith in the idea of Loop Music Academy. One of the biggest obstacles in the last year has been the difficult problem of scaling a service-based business. I realized quickly that there was a ceiling to how successful the business was if I was the only one teaching in=person lessons. There was a direct correlation of how much time I had in a work day vs. revenue. I had to find ways to break out of that equation.

This lead to the scaling ideas: hiring additional instructors, structuring group lessons, launching summer camps, and teaching online lessons. More to come on this front…

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Although I also have a background in business working as a management consultant in the corporate world for several years out of college, I have been a touring musician with the band Briscoe for the last 4 years. I am a bassist and a vocalist for the band, and it has been quite an amazing journey.

We’ve had the privilege of playing headline shows all across America, Canada, and Mexico. We’ve played festivals like Bonnaro, ACL, SXSW, Shaky Knees, Inningsfest, and more. We’ve opened for artists like Dave Matthews Band, Zach Bryan, and Noah Kahan. We are a Texas-based Folk Rock band, and getting the chance to play high quality music for tons of fans has been incredible. It has helped so much in building credibility in my music education business.

Over the years, I’ve loved studying and learning about Entrepreneurship and Founders. A few of my favorite resources:

– Zero to One – Peter Thiel
– The Lean Startup – Eric Ries
– Shoe Dog – Phil Knight
– How I Built This – NPR podcast

Also, I am an avid fan of the Google Suite of tools. I use Google Drive, Google Calendar, Docs — the whole package, all the time. It is my key to organizing time and staying on top of tasks.
