Today we’d like to introduce you to Nabile Chahine.
Hi Nabile, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After getting several requests from relatives and friends to video their weddings, and all of them indicted the cost of hiring a professional videographer is the reason for asking, I realized that those who do not want to, or cannot, spend the market prices for a video of their wedding have few options available to them. So, I challenged myself to leverage my passion for photography, experience in high tech gadgets, and proficiency in using software of any kind to develop a service model that can fill the market gap for affordable videography. I succeeded in developing a service model that produces professional quality video with comprehensive coverage while keeping cost down which makes the service very affordable. In addition, the model succeeded in removing intrusiveness during filming by leveraging wireless technology to keep the videographer out of the wedding while still covering multiple angles of the event. The model has also proven to be compatible with just about any type of event. I tried the model in a relative’s wedding and it worked well. So, I decided to start my own videography business to make the service available to anyone with limited budget. Finally, I have added a service called VideoGrats which is an audiovisual guest book allowing guests and attendees to leave their congratulations in a brief video message, reflecting the sincerity of their whishes. My wife and partner in the business usually operates this service.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been the smoothest road. I built the entire business over a couple of years, funding it out of my pocket to keep cost under control. That delayed the maturity of equipment and processes to desired levels. The biggest challenge has been convincing people that a videography service at what I charge is for real, legitimate, and not a joke or a scam.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I completed a degree in Electrical Engineering in undergraduate school and then completed master’s degree in Software Engineering. My professional career has been mostly in IT. Now, I am hoping to complete the transition to doing what I love most: photo and video preservation of life’s precious moments. My IT experience has helped me to no end when I designed the fully integrated processes for my service, from planning positioning of equipment at event venues to video editing and finalization.
What makes you happy?
Being the videographer and the editor, I tend to get immersed in the emotions and sentiments of the events I film. Nothing makes happier than completing a sequence that reflects the true emotions of those moments. My eyes have been known to tear up when reviewing the most special moments of an event as I see the evident emotions in what I have produced.
Pricing:
- My current base price is $700 covering an average, wedding style event. However, the firm price can be lower or higher after reviewing event details and venue layout. For example, I have done a Quinceanera for $300 because of the simplicity of logistics.
- I charge $50 for VideoGrats which is optional
