An Inspired Chat with Laura Christian of Flower Mound

Laura Christian shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Laura, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Any traveling, near or far! I get so much inspiration from seeing new places; whether it be a different style of architecture, new take on an interior, different design style, or even finding landscaping ideas. I’m always mentally filing notes away for elements that I would like to incorporate in future design projects. I enjoy studying little details of an exterior or interior (residential or commercial,) and seeing what works. Coming home after a trip leaves me feeling refreshed and ready to get to work on our design projects!

I also find joy in turning off any and all electronic devices, access to email, and social media to just being present with my family.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Originally from California, interior designer Laura Christian gathers a great deal of inspiration from those beautiful coasts of sunny California. Known for their classic, collected, laid-back style, her and her husband Josh launched their interior design firm where they could bring that touch of organic, outdoor-inspired design into their projects. Laura loves translating an elevated and intentional aesthetic throughout her work, and assisting all of her clients to Live Beautifully.

Laura Design & Co is a Dallas-based, full-service residential interior design firm. We specialize in a wide range of projects, from new construction, to full scale renovations, home furnishings and styling. We take pride in offering the highest level of service in pursuit of a unique, elevated and intentional design concept. It is our goal to design carefully curated, functional homes that truly meet our client’s needs. Laura strives to incorporate fresh, yet classic designs to each home and is always up for a new challenge.

Some of our current projects include a full-home furnishing project located in Highland Park, a full-scale home renovation in Lantana, and a unique kitchen renovation in Flower Mound. We are always looking to create beautiful, unique spaces with that LDCO spin on it.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents instilled in me a good work ethic from a young age, but honestly, it all comes down to knowing what you want and working hard to get it. That motivation is something I don’t think can be taught. I knew I wanted to do my own thing on my own time and go for it- I loved the idea of being able to set my own work hours. This creates flexibility, especially when it come to being able to spend time with our kids!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You don’t have to have everything figured out by the age of 18. Part of growing up is getting to know yourself and figure out what your true interests are, and that those interests can change over time, (especially once kids come into the picture.)

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My husband and kids- they are my everything. Who I am is actually very simple. I love God, my family, design, and travel. I believe the home should be a safe, warm place for those who live there to come home to each day. Good design really plays such a huge role in that. How your home looks is part of creating that cozy and inviting aesthetic, not only for your family, but guests who will visit.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I love to share what we are working on through social media. To show some of the behind the scenes, and finished results after long months, or even years for some projects. It is enjoyable to me, and I hope to inspire others, just as I have been inspired.
