Check Out Ryan TOTH’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan TOTH.

Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2016, after returning home from a work trip, a friend talked me into trying my very first escape room. I’ll admit, I was hesitant at first and didn’t think it would be my thing, but thankfully they pushed me to go. The experience completely won me over—I fell in love with the concept on the spot. The very next day, I signed a lease in Granbury, and Narrow Escape was born. What started as a spontaneous leap has grown into a place where people come together to connect, laugh, and create lasting memories.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We’ve definitely faced our share of challenges along the way. When we first opened, a lot of people in our area didn’t even know what an escape room was, so there was a big learning curve in educating the community. Being in a smaller market outside of DFW also made it a little tougher to get the word out. Then COVID hit, which was a huge obstacle for any small business, and we had to figure out how to keep things going during shutdowns and uncertainty.

But through it all, the Granbury community has been incredibly supportive, and we’ve been fortunate to draw a good portion of our business from the metroplex as well. We actually started out with a bang, and once people discovered us, things only got busier from there.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Before Narrow Escape, I spent about 15 years as a chef, which taught me a lot about hard work, timing, and creating experiences people enjoy. After that, I hit the road as a media tech for a trial research company, which gave me the chance to travel and see things from a totally different perspective. Along the way, I found myself drawn to creative outlets like graphic design, video editing, and audio engineering—passions that I still pour into building and designing our escape rooms today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has definitely played a role in both my life and my business. From the timing of trying that first escape room to finding the right location in Granbury, so many pieces seemed to fall into place at just the right moment. Of course, hard work and creativity are always part of the equation, but I don’t take for granted the lucky breaks that have helped Narrow Escape grow into what it is today.
