Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Rolon-Caro.
Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My Story
I never set out thinking I’d become a business owner. My journey began as a special education teacher, working every day with teens who were navigating challenges no textbook ever truly prepared me for. I saw firsthand how young adults—especially those who were neurodivergent or struggling with mental health—were expected to “just figure it out” once they turned 18. The reality is, independence doesn’t magically arrive at a certain age. What was missing was structured support for both the young adult and their family.
After losing my father in 2020, I found myself asking deeper questions about legacy, purpose, and how I wanted to use my gifts. That season of grief clarified something important: I didn’t just want to prepare kids for academics—I wanted to prepare them for life. That’s when Emerging Adulthood Consulting was born.
What started with one-on-one coaching has grown into workshops, speaking engagements, and resources for families who feel stuck between hope and fear. I’ve been honored to publish children’s books, write for national magazines, and create programs that make these conversations accessible in homes, schools, and communities.
Where I am today is the result of both passion and persistence. I’ve stumbled, learned, and rebuilt more than once. But through it all, I’ve held onto one belief: no young adult or family should feel like they’re walking this journey alone. My mission is simple—equip families with tools that build confidence, independence, and stronger connections, so that every step forward feels possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Obstacles/Challenges
The road has been anything but smooth. Starting a business while still working full-time, managing my own family responsibilities, and navigating the grief of losing my father created a perfect storm of challenges. There were moments I questioned whether I had what it took to keep going.
One of the hardest lessons was learning that passion alone doesn’t make a business sustainable. I had to teach myself the financial side, the marketing side, and the discipline of building systems when I felt like I was running on empty. There were seasons when the weight of “doing it all” almost pushed me to stop.
But here’s what I’ve learned: the struggles have been the greatest teachers. Every setback taught me how to slow down, recalibrate, and get clearer on my mission. The obstacles showed me where I needed boundaries, community, and grace for myself. And every time I thought I was at the end of the road, a client’s breakthrough, a parent’s relief, or a young adult’s progress reminded me why this work matters so deeply.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Emerging Adulthood Consulting was born from a simple but powerful realization: families and young adults were falling through the cracks during one of life’s biggest transitions. As a former special education teacher, I saw firsthand how little structured support existed once students hit 18 and were suddenly expected to “figure it all out.” That gap is what inspired me to create a practice focused on guiding young adults—and the parents who love them—through the messy, often overwhelming shift into independence.
What makes us unique is our holistic, heart-centered approach. I don’t just focus on academics or career readiness; I work with executive functioning, life skills, emotional regulation, and social development—the everyday tools that make independence sustainable. For parents, I provide coaching and workshops to help them step back without stepping away, building confidence in their child’s ability to thrive.
Our motto is “Legacy in Progress,” because we believe independence isn’t a straight line—it’s a weaving of resilience, identity, and confidence over time. That’s what sets us apart: we see the whole picture, not just one piece of the puzzle.
I’m most proud that Emerging Adulthood Consulting has become both a resource and a community. Families tell me they feel seen, heard, and hopeful again. That’s what I want readers to know: we’re here to take the fear out of this transition, to give parents and young adults real-world tools, and to remind them that independence doesn’t have to mean doing it alone.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is sitting around the kitchen table with my family, often with the tv playing in the background. My dad loved teaching me life lessons in small, everyday ways—through stories, quotes, and even tough love when I needed it. He would remind me, “I’d rather hear an ugly truth than a beautiful lie.” At the time, I didn’t realize how much those moments shaped me, but they planted the seed for the work I do now—helping young adults and families navigate honesty, identity, and growth with compassion.
It wasn’t about grand vacations or picture-perfect days—it was about those ordinary, consistent moments of connection that made me feel safe, seen, and guided. That’s why I now believe so strongly in creating support systems that hold space for growth in the small, everyday ways.
