Exploring Life & Business with Dr. Miaya Love of Love Therapy Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Miaya Love.

Hi Dr. Miaya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story has really been shaped by the women closest to me. My mom is a teacher who gave so much of herself to her students, and watching the way she cared for them inspired me to follow a similar path of helping and teaching. My sister has also been such a strong influence. She is not only smart, driven, and accomplished, but also one of the most caring and selfless people I know. She has such a warm spirit, she loves people, and she is kind and helpful to everyone she meets. Having her in my life has encouraged me to be both ambitious and compassionate, and I really admire the way she moves through the world.

For a time, I thought I might become an engineer because of how much I loved math. But then I took my very first psychology course, and something just clicked. I realized that my heart was in understanding people, caring about their feelings, and supporting them through their growth. From that point on, I knew counseling would be my path.

Now, I feel so grateful to live out that calling in two ways: through my private practice, where I walk alongside clients in their healing journeys, and through being an assistant professor, where I get to mentor and guide the next generation of counselors. It feels like such a beautiful balance of my passions, and I see it as both a joy and a privilege to do this work.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. Like many people, I’ve faced seasons of self-doubt, transitions that felt overwhelming, and moments where I questioned if I was on the right path. Balancing the demands of higher education, building a private practice, and still showing up fully for the people I care about has sometimes been challenging. There were times when doors closed that I had hoped would open, or when opportunities didn’t happen as quickly as I wanted them to.

What I’ve learned through those struggles is the importance of patience, faith, and resilience. Every setback or obstacle has helped me grow into a stronger and more compassionate counselor, professor, and woman. I also learned to give myself grace and to remember that my path doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. The struggles taught me perseverance, and they deepened my belief that growth often comes through the harder seasons.

We’ve been impressed with Love Therapy Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Love Therapy Services is truly the heart of my work. It’s a private counseling practice I founded to create a safe, welcoming space where people feel seen, heard, and supported. I specialize in working with individuals who are navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the desire to grow in self-awareness and emotional well-being. What clients often tell me is that they appreciate the way I meet them with both compassion and practical strategies, helping them feel encouraged while also equipping them with tools for lasting change.

What sets Love Therapy Services apart is the combination of warmth and professionalism. I want every client to feel cared for the moment they walk through the door or log into a session, and I also want them to leave with something tangible they can carry into their daily life. The name itself reflects what I want the practice to represent: therapy that is rooted in love, understanding, and genuine care.

Brand wise, I am most proud of building something that reflects both my heart and my values. It’s not just a business to me, it’s a calling. I want readers to know that at Love Therapy Services, therapy is not about fixing people, but about walking alongside them as they discover their strengths, learn new ways of coping, and build the lives they desire. My hope is that clients feel empowered, encouraged, and truly supported, both in session and beyond.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve come to see risk-taking as a natural part of growth. For me, it’s less about being fearless and more about being faithful and intentional. I tend to think of risk as stepping into the unknown with preparation, prayer, and a willingness to learn. Every major turning point in my life, whether attending graduate school, starting my private practice, or stepping into a full-time faculty role, required me to take a leap before I could see the full path ahead.

One of the biggest risks I took was launching Love Therapy Services. I left the comfort of a predictable schedule to build something that reflected my vision and values. It was scary at times, but it taught me so much about trust, resilience, and believing in the gifts God has given me. Looking back, those “risks” have been some of my greatest blessings because they pushed me to grow into the counselor, professor, and business owner I am today.

To me, risk doesn’t mean recklessness. It means discerning when an opportunity aligns with your purpose and values, then stepping forward even if you don’t have all the answers yet. That’s where growth and transformation often begin.
