Today we’d like to introduce you to Krista Dodson.
Hi Krista, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
With over 26 years behind the chair, my mission has always been simple: help people look and feel their best. But 15 years ago, a personal health scare in my early 30s changed everything. It pushed me to question what we put in and on our bodies—and I didn’t like the answers. Many of the products I once trusted were filled with chemicals I could no longer stand behind.
As a wife, mother, and lifelong learner, I turned that concern into purpose. I started formulating my own skincare, studied herbalism, and embraced a holistic approach to beauty that prioritized both health and results. That path led me to scalp facial training through Academy M—an “aha” moment where everything clicked. It was the perfect fusion of my experience in hair care and my passion for total wellness.
That’s how Kinspired was born. I created it for clients who want more than beauty—they want balance, nourishment, and confidence from the inside out. Because skin doesn’t stop at the hairline. And neither should your self-care.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The beauty industry is unfortunately very toxic! It took time to find the right products that aligned with my vision. Some things I had to create myself. Its a process of wins and failures. I’m finding that’s how you grow and learn as a person and a company. Half of the business is education because people aren’t familiar with what a scalp facial even is and have no idea what ingredients are in the things we put on our body and what that does to us long term. I try not to get stuck on the little things and keep my eye on the main goal! I’m learning to take risks and give as much value as I can to the customer. The rewards of that out weighs the struggle.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the founder and lead specialist at Kinspired Hair & Scalp Care, a luxury hair salon and head spa. I deliver holistic hair wellness by integrating high-end styling with advanced health treatments.
My core specialization is in scalp care, specifically pioneering the use of Scalp Facials. While we offer precision haircuts and beautiful color services, our defining work is treating the scalp—the root—to ensure truly healthy, sustainable beauty for the hair.
What are you known for?
I am known for being East Texas’ first certified scalp specialist. Clients seek me out because I deliver more than just a gorgeous hairstyle; I provide a pathway to total hair transformation from the root up. I’ve built a reputation for my deep commitment to clean, nourishing practices and my philosophy that self-care doesn’t stop at the hairline. My clients know they are receiving services backed by over 26 years of experience, combined with a specialized, wellness-first focus.
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of turning a significant personal experience into the foundation of my professional purpose. Over 15 years ago, a personal health scare pushed me to question the chemicals and ingredients in the beauty products I was using. This led me to study herbalism and total wellness, ultimately resulting in the creation of Kinspired. I’m proud to offer a space where clients receive both high-end beauty results and profound balance and nourishment—a truly holistic approach that prioritizes health above all else.
What sets you apart from others?
What truly sets Kinspired apart is the fusion of luxury styling with specialized, health-driven scalp care. Most salons focus on the hair fiber; we focus on the root cause.
Being the region’s first dedicated scalp specialist means we have a unique expertise in a rapidly growing wellness field. Our Scalp Facials are not just a relaxing add-on; they are a necessary part of a total wellness regimen. By combining this specialized, holistic approach with my decades of experience in high-end haircutting and custom color, we offer a level of personalized, health-focused care that simply isn’t available in a traditional salon setting.”
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see the industry undergoing a profound and necessary transformation over the next 5 to 10 years, moving away from purely cosmetic treatments toward a wellness-first, holistic model.
We are at the epicenter of three major shifts:
1. The ‘Skinification’ of Hair: The Scalp is the New Skincare
This is the single biggest trend. For years, the industry focused almost entirely on the hair strand—the dead fiber. Now, thanks to greater consumer education and social media, there is widespread understanding that a healthy scalp is the only foundation for healthy hair.
The next decade will see scalp care become as routine and sophisticated as facial skincare. This means:
The Rise of the Head Spa: The Scalp Facial, or ‘Head Spa’ experience, will evolve from a niche luxury service into a core offering in most high-end salons. It’s a specialized treatment that addresses issues like the scalp microbiome, inflammation, and cellular buildup.
Advanced Diagnostics: We will see more technology in the salon, such as microscopic scalp analysis and AI-powered tools, allowing specialists to deliver highly personalized, data-driven treatment plans for concerns like hair loss and chronic irritation.
2. The Merger of Beauty and Holistic Wellness
Consumers are actively seeking self-care that relieves stress and promotes mental well-being, and they recognize that hair and skin health are tied to their internal state.
The industry will embrace an ‘Inside-Out’ approach, where we integrate:
Holistic Consultations: Professionals will increasingly discuss nutrition, stress management, and sleep—not just product recommendations—because clients know those factors directly impact hair health.
Wellness Rituals: The salon experience will become less about rushing and more about mindful self-care, where relaxation techniques like aromatherapy, massage, and therapeutic quiet are as important as the end result.
3. Clean, Sustainable, and Ingredient-Focused Demands
The consumer demand for ingredient integrity will only intensify. Shoppers are highly educated on ‘free-from’ claims and are demanding transparency.
This translates into:
Prioritizing Clean Beauty: There will be a massive increase in the use of natural, plant-based, and sustainably sourced ingredients, moving away from harsh chemicals.
Sustainability in Practice: Clients will favor businesses committed to reducing their environmental footprint, whether through eco-friendly product lines, minimal packaging, or sustainable salon practices.
Essentially, the industry is catching up to the philosophy we built Kinspired on: true, lasting beauty is a reflection of total wellness. For specialists who are already focused on the health of the whole person, the next 5-10 years will be a period of exponential growth.”
