Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Herr.
Hi Brandy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in Euless, TX and graduated from Trinity High School in 2001. I graduated from Penn State University in 2005 with a degree in Public Relations and a minor in Theatre. After graduation, my mother and I lived in Virginia for a while before deciding to move back to Texas to be closer to family. Shortly after moving to Granbury, we began working at a restaurant at the Nutt House Hotel on the Granbury square. We would encounter the ghost that lives there quite often and would share our stories with our dining guests. One day, a couple guests asked, “Does Granbury have a ghost tour?” That sparked the idea in our minds, and in April 2010, my mother, Coletta Henderson, and I created the Granbury Ghosts and Legends Tour. I have since published Haunted Granbury through Arcadia Publishing as well as the children’s version, The Ghostly Tales of Granbury. My mother and I also run the annual horror/paranormal/fantasy convention Spooky Spectacle at the Lake Granbury Conference Center. I am also the business manager for Arts & Letters Bookstore with locations in Granbury and Weatherford, TX.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No road worth traveling is ever smooth, though we have been fortunate with the support the Granbury Ghosts and Legends Tour and Spooky Spectacle have received from the Granbury community and our fans. For the ghost tour, sometimes we have to contend with weather and illness. At one point, I was taking a new medication for migraines that ended up affecting my memory. During one tour, any time I tried to return back to the script, the words simply weren’t there. I was able to limp through the tour using secondary stories, and thankfully the group was incredibly gracious and understanding, but it was a scary experience for my brain to simply break like that. I immediately stopped taking the medication, and the words came back like normal.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I run the Granbury Ghosts and Legends Tour and Spooky Spectacle as well as manage the Arts & Letters Bookstore in Granbury and Weatherford. I have two books currently in publication, Haunted Granbury and The Ghostly Tales of Granbury. I am known for being the spooky girl in Granbury. I’m proud of what I have built with the ghost tour, being in business for over 15 years and still going strong.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I don’t have any particular media that I go to for inspiration, but I do find tremendous support through my network of friends on Facebook. I am in several inspirational groups on there, mainly about staying healthy, but that spills over into getting inspiration for everyday life as well.
