Hi LaChasity, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
CJ’s Play Corner started from my personal experience as a mom to an energetic two-year-old. Living in Azle, TX, we were close enough to bigger indoor playground chains, but the time, travel, expense, and crowds often outweighed the benefit. When we did go, I found myself wishing for something smaller, cleaner, and more intimate. Larger playgrounds cater to a wide audience, but for children under seven, they can be overwhelming, unsafe, or simply not designed with their needs in mind. I noticed younger children often got pushed around by older kids, outdoor playgrounds weren’t always practical due to weather and safety, and sanitation at large facilities was often inconsistent because staff were stretched too thin.
That’s when the idea for CJ’s Play Corner was born. It’s a space intentionally designed for children seven and younger, where safety and stimulation are top priorities and parents can comfortably watch their children play in one open room. Our model allows kids to gain independence while parents get peace of mind. We also made sure to keep our pricing reasonable, offer sibling and infant discounts, and allow families to bring their own food, because I know firsthand how tough the economy can be for parents. Cleanliness is another core value: we use kid-friendly cleaning products, sanitize throughout the day, and conduct deep cleaning every Sunday.
What started as an idea rooted in my own parenting challenges has now grown into a community-centered indoor playground that prioritizes safety, comfort, and affordability while giving families in Azle a much-needed local option.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but the challenges have made the journey even more rewarding. From the start, there were countless details to consider; finding the right location, determining the square footage and layout, and deciding on which toys and play structures would be safest and most engaging for children seven and under. I had to educate myself on state safety standards to ensure full compliance, and every inch of our play structure was self-designed through extensive research to make sure it was both age-appropriate and practical to build. Our equipment was imported from overseas, arriving in a 40-foot container with non-English instructions, so we had to bring in a specialist to help ensure everything was properly assembled to standard. On top of that, building a brand from scratch was intimidating, but my passion and vision kept me moving forward and helped me turn each speedbump into a stepping stone.

CJ’s Play Corner is an indoor playground in Azle, TX designed specifically for children seven years and younger; an age group often overlooked in larger play facilities. What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that passion and persistence matter more than perfection. Building CJ’s Play Corner taught me that obstacles, whether it’s navigating regulations, importing and assembling equipment, or learning how to build a brand from scratch, are inevitable, but they don’t have to be roadblocks. When you truly believe in your vision, you find the creativity, patience, and resilience to push through challenges and turn them into opportunities for growth. I’ve learned to embrace flexibility, trust the process, and remember that every detail matters when it comes to creating something meaningful for families and the community.
