Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Stern.
Hi Adam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Dreams: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac
In the ever-evolving music scene, few bands hold the legendary status of Fleetwood Mac. Among the modern acts inspired by their legacy is the band Dreams.
With three members from an original band known as Voodoo Logic, the group had already started playing a few iconic Fleetwood Mac songs. After being asked multiple times why they didn’t incorporate even more of these hits, Adam and Lori Stern saw an opportunity. They realized that they could recruit the best talent in Texas to create Dreams and not only honor the iconic band but also recreate their signature sound.
With that vision in mind, Dreams was born as a tribute to Fleetwood Mac. They quickly became known for their authentic renditions of classics like “Dreams” and “Go Your Own Way,” “oh Well” while also infusing their own flair. Their shows quickly gained a large following and they performed at well-established music venues, festival and private events all across the state of Texas.
In just a short time, the Award winning Dreams not only honored the legacy of Fleetwood Mac but also carved out their own niche in the music world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road in the music business? In a word, no. The most difficult obstacle right from the start was finding business minded players that were not just very talented but also willing to commit at a very high level. We rehearsed for a year and a half before we felt we could do justice to the Fleetwood Mac songs and we really focused on the intricacies of every hit song off of Rumours which is among the best-selling albums of all time, with worldwide sales exceeding 40 million copies. This is a business of rejection and attrition. Getting a gig at a major venue is very, very difficult. There are ninety noes or no replies to get a few yeses. In fact this process became so time consuming, I had to convince our Booking agency to take over this aspect for us. Even they, Providence Music Group took over a year to make sure that we all that we said we were and they demanded proof before they agreed to put us in their roster.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I believe what sets me apart from most artists/musicians is my long and successful career in sales and marketing. I had the opportunity to work for some of the largest medical and automotive businesses in the world. I learned from the best in their industries. This along with a very strong work ethic and moral code set me apart from the crowd. Choosing to not get a salary, but percentage of profit and being entrepreneurial forces people to have some skin in the game. Together we all fail or if all do our best, work very hard the planets align we win big.
How do you think about happiness?
My wife of course! ( You know I better say that!) After my personal relationship without a doubt it is music… Every aspect of it. Playing it, rehearsal, practice, marketing, networking, collaborating, composing, recording. There is not one day that I don’t spend a significant portion of my time directly or indirectly with music, the music business or the business of music. Often I wonder why this is? I can’t answer it in any other way than to say, I don’t have a choice, it is who I am. Music is the greatest gift any person have give to their child, friends or family members. It lasts a lifetime and is woven into every aspect of our lives.
