Hi David, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us! To start, can you share a bit of your backstory with our readers?
I got my start in construction when I was just 13 years old, working for a local company doing roofing and all types of exterior work. When I was 19, my father and I began buying and selling houses, and I was responsible for making sure each home was remodeled correctly, efficiently, and within budget.
In 2008, I decided to branch out on my own, focusing on exterior projects like fences, decks, and pergolas. Over time, I began subcontracting crews for masonry, concrete, and framing work. A few years later, customers started requesting interior remodels—flooring, painting, countertops, tile work, and general renovations.
At first, I referred that work to other contractors, but eventually, I started managing the projects myself to ensure everything ran smoothly. In 2009, I began hiring my own staff, and today HG Remodeling has nine full-time employees, along with six or seven trusted subcontractor crews that we work with regularly.
Every journey has its challenges. Would you say yours has been a smooth one?
Definitely not without its bumps. Like any small business, there have been challenges—especially finding and keeping great workers, maintaining quality communication with clients, and making sure each project is completed on time, within budget, and exactly to the client’s expectations.
Most of our customers are absolutely wonderful, but every year there are one or two that present unique challenges. Those situations can be stressful, but I always do my best to see things through professionally and make sure we finish strong without letting tensions get the best of anyone.
As you know, we’re big fans of HG Remodeling. For readers who might not be as familiar, what should they know about your brand?
HG Remodeling specializes in residential remodeling and home additions. Our focus is ensuring every project runs smoothly from demolition to completion. I’m personally on-site daily and make it a priority to maintain strong, open communication with both clients and my team.
What I’m most proud of is our ability to solve problems. In construction, challenges are inevitable—but I take pride in finding solutions quickly and keeping projects moving forward without unnecessary stress or setbacks. That commitment to professionalism and care is what keeps our clients coming back and referring us to others.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I’ve always been calm, active, and family-oriented. Growing up, I was deeply involved in sports and loved spending time outdoors. I’ve always had a passion for travel and adventure—exploring new places, enjoying the mountains, and trying new foods from around the world.
