Joe Nyahay of Frisco on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Joe Nyahay. Check out our conversation below.

Joe, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think others are secretly struggling with finding their true self and maximizing their ceiling of potential. They are unable to find their expertise and their passion, and spend years doing the typical routine without capitalizing on what makes them the best version of themself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an individual who understood I had a unique creative side to me and was blessed with talent at an early age, and slowly began to capitalize on my talents in marketing/engineering mindsets (creativity and analytics) together. I grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA where I knew no one who was a business owner or who was truly ‘wealthy’. I was surrounded by an environment that plateaued at a level I wanted to move past. After 15 years in corporate America at several companies, I climbed the ladder quickly and expanded on my expertise. After reaching this plateau, I wanted more, and decided to move to Dallas, TX to surround myself with driven and successful entrepreneurs that I can learn from. I wanted to be in a network of people who were all doing much better than me and I can learn from, and that’s exactly what happened. I went from a corporate employee to a business owner in just 2 years, working with someone I networked with in my apartment complex in downtown Dallas. I had no idea that the expertise I had could produce so much money in a short period of time… and it felt so foreign to me. I was playing in a completely different league that I didn’t know existed, and it felt so real. I learned so many lessons along the way, especially failing early, which defines the type of person I am, which is someone who has relentless perseverance to get past the hardest times and believe in myself… that I HAVE WHAT IT TAKES NO MATTER WHAT. I now own a boutique marketing agency that provides services for executive leadership coaches looking to have their voice heard in a crowded market. I’ve helped hundreds of coaches over the years, and this thoroughly excites me to not only capitalize on my passion and talents, but also learn from these coaches along the way so I can share these lessons with my wife and newborn son.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I moved to Dallas and understood the amount of money that was possible to make with my own personal business, and how the mindset of ‘just work in a corporate 9-5’ was a mindset that I realized wasn’t the way to financial freedom, success, and fulfilling your passion.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I learned that failing early and often (even through the worst of times) has shaped my mind, mentality, and character to be a better person. I’ve gone months with making little to no money, and months making absurdly high profits, and the highs and lows have truly shaped how I approach business startups and the phases one must take to build a strong business. These also taught me how to incorporate various values from leadership into my business and to train my ‘leadership’ muscle over and over again to be someone who leads with the heart first.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
When you are prepared to save and invest money, you’re often told to “Invest your money in the market.” or “Invest your money in real estate.”

I completely disagree. I think you should invest in yourself and your mind. You are the only person who’s able to define your future years and make your dream life become a reality. This all comes from knowledge, creative thinking, emotional intelligence (just to name a few). Your most powerful ‘weapon’ to conquer your success isn’t your money, it’s your mind.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
I regret not growing my personal brand earlier in life. Although I was raised in an environment where this education wasn’t talked about (or even known), it was difficult to understand these concepts. It all came down to who I surrounded myself with and what I could learn from them. I wish I would have surrounded myself with higher-educated and ‘successful’ people earlier in life, which would have heavily boosted my success today.
