Life & Work with Phoebe Zackary of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phoebe Zackary.

Hi Phoebe, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Like so many photographers, it’s hard to remember exactly when I started! I remember planning “photoshoots” for my friends in junior high, wrangling everyone together into different outfits and poses, and then taking and editing all the photos on the Mini iPad I got for my 6th grade graduation. Not my best work! As I got older, I saved up for my first point and shoot camera, and brought it with me to every high school event, summer camp, and mission trip, self appointing myself as the event photographer everywhere I went. When I headed off to college, this pattern continued. Eventually, this developed into taking graduation pictures for my college friends, and couples I knew around campus. It was around this time that I really started to consider what it would look like to pursue this as more than just a creative outlet! I was truly falling in love with the art and connection of photography, even as I continued on in school and pursued my nursing degree. Around this same time frame, a friend of mine asked if I would be willing to photograph her wedding! It was a leap from what I had been shooting, but she trusted me and my vision, so I went for it! From that very first wedding, I was completely hooked. I jumped in with two feet and haven’t looked back! The Lord has been so kind to bless my business, and this past weekend I shot my 25th Phoebe Zack Photo wedding! I have also been so privileged to shoot for and alongside so many other talented photographers in the DFW area, and building community in this industry has been such a gift! I am so thankful for the growth I have seen in myself, my craft, and my business, and can’t wait for everything to come!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think the biggest challenge I face is that I still work full time as a registered nurse! I wouldn’t have it any other way, and I am immensely thankful for the gift that it is to get to care for people in the hospital, and on their wedding days! I love the balance each role brings, and how it rounds me out as a person. It has also taught me so much about time management, and how to be fully invested in where I am at the moment, and not thinking about everything else going on in my life. It is busy, and often challenging, but it makes my life full and I love it!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a wedding and motherhood photographer! My mission statement is this: From the beginning of your forever to the growth of your families, Phoebe Zack Photo preserves each precious moment with care and intentionality, knowing that these are the photos that will be shown to your grandkids one day.

What matters most to you?
My work is centered around people. I believe that people are what make a photo interesting, and valuable. My hope always is that my photos will stand the test of time, and become family heirlooms. I strive to not cater to trends, but to tap into timeless. I want my photos to feel honest, so that when my clients looks back at their wedding photos, they really remember how they felt in the moment, and see themselves and their loved ones captured truly and honestly! I am inspired by real life, real people, and real love stories. It is a gift to be invited into so many of them!
