Daily Inspiration: Meet James Wesley Cummins

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Wesley Cummins.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was raised on a Forty-two acre farm just South of Weatherford, Texas.
I have been a Texas Peace Officer since 1989 . I served in the U.S. Army, Tx Army N’tl Guard, and U.S.M.C. before that.
I spent two years in Kosovo training police officers on a U.S. Department of State INL contract. I was the Acting Chief of the UN Special Police Operations Threat Analysis Cell. I also supervised 42 police officers from 19 different nations for a specialized unit in North Mitrovica.
I am currently going to graduate school at SWBTS to get a Master of Divinity in Theological Studies.
I have been the Senior Pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Weatherford, Texas since 2016. I have been married to my wife Terrie for Thirty six years.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life is a roller coaster with its up’s and down’s, but like a roller coaster it is always worth the ride. My wife and I have had financial struggles and lately, physical challenges that have had to be addressed through the years, but we have not gone through it alone. Our friends and our faith and trust in the sovereignty of God and devotion to Christ, have brought us through uphill struggles time, and time again.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Military, Law Enforcement, Pastor

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
God deserves all the credit for any good that has come from my efforts. My wife, Terrie also, she has been right beside me, encouraging me and supporting my adventures.
I have been fortunate to serve with great professionals in my law enforcement and pastoral careers and serve wonderful communities full of gracious, caring families.
