Today we’d like to introduce you to John Thomas.
Hi John, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was addicted to drugs and had overdosed multiple times. I realized I needed help and started reading the Bible every night. I woke up one day completely different, no desire for drugs and aware of God’s love and His presence. I started going to church and helping anyone I could. I ended up serving at a ministry as a teacher and pastor and after the founder, John Paul Jackson died in 2015 I took over the leadership of Streams Ministries. I now travel all over the world helping people find hope, experience the love of God, change their lives and hear God better.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. I have lived in seven different states, pastored churches, and travelled extensively until early 2020. When international travel shut down for a while we had to change our business model and learn how to do more online. We developed a YouTube channel, online events, and as travel opened back up have used that as a foundation to do even more. Economic situations have created struggles, making hard decisions has led to misunderstanding, and holding to clear Biblical convictions has caused difficulty as some dislike what God has to say about morality and righteous living.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Streams Ministries International?
John Paul Jackson started this ministry to help local churches hear God’s voice in 1994. Since 2016 when I took the leadership we have expanded the ministry to include an in-person Bible school called Streams Academy. Streams is known for teaching a Biblical model of dream interpretation and explaining supernatural activity as normal in a relationship with God. We have held to the conviction that character is more important than gifting and developed a reputation for integrity. We teach about all aspects of a relationship with God believing that the Bible encourages us to talk to Him and expect Him to talk to us. We have an online classroom with over 222 hours of training, a local church that meets every Sunday, training centers in nine different countries, and Streams Academy offers an Associate of Science in Prophetic and Revelatory Studies as well as an Associate of Science in Biblical Dream Interpretation.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
There has been a surge in interest about Jesus and what the Bible teaches amongst young people in America. Over the next few years there will be many more churches started to help meet this hunger. These churches will prioritize the presence of God, clear Biblical teaching, compassionate outreach to the poor and those in need, and train people to do the work of ministry instead of church staff doing all the ministry. There will be more and more interaction between different people groups and cultures which will enrich vibrant churches to expand their horizons and see possibilities they would miss if only one group was represented.
