Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty’kie Singleton.
Hi Ty’kie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey to becoming The Paralegal & Notary Mom is deeply personal and rooted in resilience, purpose, and a desire to create impact. I didn’t come from a traditional legal background or a picture-perfect career path — I started as a young mom determined to build a better future for myself and my son.
After graduating from Fossil Ridge High in 2018, I explored different roles in customer service and the legal field, eventually earning my paralegal certification. During that time, I saw firsthand how many people were falling through the cracks of the legal system — especially those representing themselves (pro se litigants) or struggling to afford legal help. I realized there was a massive gap between expensive law firm services and the overwhelming DIY approach most people were forced into.
I launched my notary business in November 2024, and by May 2025 I decided to expand and get serious by adding full paralegal services. That’s when The Paralegal & Notary Mom truly came to life — a combined service that offers affordable, high-quality paralegal support, document drafting, e-filing assistance, record retrieval, and mobile or remote notary services.
The name The Paralegal & Notary Mom was very intentional. I wanted it to stand as a statement — that having a baby doesn’t stop anything. Being a single mom or a mom in general is not an excuse to give up on your dreams. My clients hear my son crying or laughing in the background during meetings, and when I go to notary appointments, he’s often right there with me. I have no shame in that — because the work gets done, and my clients are satisfied. They also get to see a cute baby in the process of work getting done. This business is about normalizing the real side of motherhood — the beautiful chaos, the multitasking, and the determination to succeed despite every obstacle. That has always been my goal: to show other moms that they, too, can build something powerful without hiding who they are.
What started small grew quickly. After combining both services, I made over $2,000 in my very first month and haven’t looked back since. Since then, I’ve supported clients across Texas and beyond with everything from post-conviction filings and appellate briefs to child custody modifications, divorce decrees, and EEOC demand letters. My work has included assisting incarcerated individuals in retrieving decades-old records, helping parents navigate complex family law cases, and giving small businesses the legal support they need without the heavy law-firm price tag.
Every service I offer today is a direct reflection of what I wish I had when I was navigating tough legal situations myself — compassionate, knowledgeable support that empowers people to advocate for themselves. My business has also become a way to show my son that with determination, creativity, and hard work, you can build something meaningful from the ground up.
Today, The Paralegal & Notary Mom is more than a business — it’s a movement to make legal support accessible, approachable, and human. And this is only the beginning. My goal is to continue scaling nationwide, create educational resources for pro se litigants, and eventually expand into training and mentorship to help other aspiring paralegals build businesses of their own.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but I think that’s what makes my journey so meaningful. Starting The Paralegal & Notary Mom as a single mom came with more challenges than I could count. From balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship to figuring out the legal industry without a traditional law firm background, every step came with lessons learned the hard way.
One of the biggest obstacles was self-doubt. I didn’t have a big firm behind me, a team of attorneys, or investors — it was just me, my laptop, my baby, and a dream. There were times when I questioned whether people would take me seriously, especially with my son sometimes laughing or crying in the background during client calls. But instead of letting that hold me back, I decided to lean into it. I built my brand around the reality that I’m a mom and a professional — and that both can exist at the same time.
Financial challenges were another big hurdle. I started this business with very little capital, so I had to be extremely intentional and resourceful. I kept my expenses as small as possible — I only spent money on buying my domain, building my website, and printing business cards. My marketing wasn’t about expensive ads or paid promotions. It was me, pushing my son in his stroller around the neighborhood, passing out cards, talking to people face-to-face, and spreading the word the old-fashioned way. It was completely free marketing — and it worked.
I also faced challenges in the industry itself. As a freelance paralegal working primarily with pro se clients, I had to carefully navigate my services to stay compliant and ethical while still offering real value. That meant constantly educating myself, researching laws, and building systems that protect my clients and my business.
The biggest challenge of all has been balance — learning how to grow a company while still being present for my son. There were many nights I worked until 3 a.m. after putting him to bed, or typed up legal filings with one hand while rocking him with the other. It’s not easy, but every sacrifice has been worth it.
The road hasn’t been smooth, but I wouldn’t change it. The challenges shaped me into a stronger businesswoman, a more resourceful problem solver, and a more empathetic professional. And now, when clients come to me overwhelmed or unsure, I can truly say, “I understand — and I’ve got you.”
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Paralegal & Notary Mom is more than just a business — it’s a lifeline for people who need legal support but don’t know where to start. We specialize in affordable, high-quality paralegal and notary services designed to help everyday people navigate the legal system with confidence. My mission is simple: to make legal help accessible, approachable, and human.
I offer a wide range of services including legal document drafting, court filings, e-filing assistance, record retrieval, legal research, and case organization. I also provide mobile and remote notary services, which means I can meet clients where they are — whether that’s in person, online, or even at their home or workplace. One of the areas I’m most passionate about is working with pro se clients — people who are representing themselves in court. These individuals often feel overwhelmed, underprepared, and unsure of the process, and that’s where I step in. I help them understand what needs to be filed, how to structure their documents, and how to move forward with confidence, all while staying within the boundaries of what a paralegal can ethically do.
One unique part of my business is that the record retrieval division is family-owned and operated. My family and I personally handle retrieving legal, medical, and court records for clients — and we go above and beyond to make sure nothing stands in the way of getting the documents they need. If in-person retrieval is required, we’ll show up. We believe in providing a level of care and commitment that larger companies simply don’t offer, and that personal touch is a huge part of what sets us apart.
What truly sets The Paralegal & Notary Mom apart is the heart behind it. I don’t operate like a cold, corporate legal service — I meet people where they are in some of the most stressful and vulnerable moments of their lives. I treat every client with compassion, patience, and understanding, while still delivering precise, professional results. My brand is built on trust, integrity, and empowerment.
I’m also proud to say that I go beyond just legal paperwork. I help incarcerated individuals retrieve decades-old records to support post-conviction relief efforts. I assist parents fighting for custody, employees pursuing EEOC claims, and families trying to clarify divorce decrees or property ownership.
But perhaps the thing I’m most proud of is how authentic this business is. I’m known for being transparent and real — if you work with me, you’re going to hear my baby in the background sometimes, and you might even see me show up to a notary appointment with a stroller. That’s intentional. It’s my way of showing that motherhood and professionalism are not mutually exclusive. The work still gets done — accurately, thoroughly, and on time.
At the end of the day, The Paralegal & Notary Mom isn’t just a service — it’s a movement. I want people to know that legal help doesn’t have to be intimidating or out of reach. My goal is to continue expanding nationwide, launch educational resources for pro se litigants, and create mentorship opportunities for other paralegals who dream of building businesses of their own.
If you’re overwhelmed, confused, or just don’t know where to start — that’s where I come in. And I want readers to know: you don’t have to go through the legal system alone.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about the DFW area is the opportunity. There’s an energy here that’s hard to describe — it’s ambitious, fast-paced, and full of people who are building something for themselves and their families. I love that spirit because it mirrors my own journey. DFW is also incredibly diverse, which means I get to work with people from all walks of life — from single parents navigating family court to small business owners needing legal support. That diversity keeps my work meaningful and reminds me that The Paralegal & Notary Mom exists to serve real people with real stories.
I also appreciate how supportive the community can be. So many of my clients have come from word-of-mouth referrals, local events, and simply connecting with people in my neighborhood. Whether I’m passing out business cards on a walk with my son or networking with small business owners, there’s always a sense of possibility here.
What I like least — and what I hope to be part of changing — is that many people in the DFW area still don’t know how to access legal support when they need it. The system can feel overwhelming and confusing, especially for people who can’t afford an attorney. There’s also a huge gap in awareness when it comes to affordable legal help, and that often leaves people stuck or giving up on pursuing justice. That’s exactly why I’m so passionate about what I do. My goal is to continue bridging that gap and showing the people of DFW that help is available — and that they don’t have to face it alone.
