Today we’d like to introduce you to Estefania Castro.
Hi Estefania , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
First and foremost i would like to say thank you for this opportunity i am so grateful.
I actually did the cosmetology program in high school but i felt as if i didn’t learn much. So i didnt move forward with it at the time. Once i graduated i thought i wanted to be a massage therapist. I did the schooling and graduated only to realize i didn’t like touching peoples bodies. I want to say about two years after that i decided to go back to school and finish what i had started and proceed with my cosmetology career, I absolutely love what i do. I’ve been in the industry now about 13 years. It wasn’t always smooth but it is worth it. I had three salon jobs and there was only one that i lasted years at but then i had my son and i knew i needed to be more available for him.I then decided to move into a suite and i haven’t looked back sense. It was the best decision i have ever made.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh definitely not. You know in school they make it seem like you are going to graduate and make all this money but that’s not necessarily the case. You have to find your spot and what you are really good at. It definitely teaches you patience and understanding. You learn how to hustle real quick. The pay at first was just bad and i kept telling myself it will get better. Eventually it did. I bounced around from salon to salon to find where I fit in. In this career you are going to have your slow seasons and your most busy. It’s always a roller coaster but i love it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in color, color correction, and balayage/ all Over blondes.
I believe my blondes is mainly what i am really busy with. I take pride in giving the best service and always making sure my client is happy. I will not let you walk out the door if you or myself is not happy with your hair.
I want every client to walk in my business and feel at home. I’m such a laid back person naturally i want them to feel relaxed as well.
Im proud of my accomplishments getting as far as i have in my career and becoming a mother along the way. Also building long lasting clientele I have clients that have been with me for 7-8 years.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
For me it was finding peace in a salon setting. If there’s a lot of drama it’s hard to thrive and want to continue your career. You have to be happy in your space and don’t let one unhappy costumer take your shine away. Never cut yourself short. Always believe in your craft and in you mainly. Put your all in your passion, your clients are your walking build board.
