Hidden Gems: Meet Steven Nguyen of MDRN Dental Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Nguyen.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Dr. Steven Nguyen, founder of MDRN Dental Studio, where every detail reflects the values I’ve always lived by: hard work, continual learning, and genuine care.

Born and raised in Plano, Texas, I grew up watching my parents rebuild their lives after immigrating to the U.S. following the Vietnam War. Their dedication and resilience taught me the importance of perseverance and integrity, principles that continue to define how I care for my patients every single day.

After graduating from Plano East Senior High, I attended The University of Texas at Austin and went on to earn my dental degree from Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas. As the first doctor in my extended family, I’ve always felt a deep responsibility to give my best and never stop growing. That commitment has driven me to complete over 600 hours of advanced continuing education within my first five years after dental school. I am a graduate of the renowned Kois Center, a distinction earned by fewer than one percent of dentists that represents over 250 hours of cosmetic and general dentistry training, and a Fellow of Implant Pathway, a leading institution in implant surgery education.

At MDRN Dental Studio, everything I’ve learned, from my education to my personal journey, comes together to create a patient experience centered on trust, innovation, and excellence. Our philosophy is simple: to combine cutting edge techniques with genuine care so our patients can smile with confidence, knowing they’re receiving dentistry at the highest level.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wish I could say it was a smooth journey, but like most meaningful ones, it came with its share of challenges. Before opening MDRN Dental Studio, I worked in a range of corporate and private practices. Each setting had its strengths, but also limitations that made it hard to treat patients the way I believed they truly deserved.

In large corporate environments, I often felt that the human connection, which is at the heart of dentistry, was missing. On the other hand, many private practices faced operational hurdles that created frustration and made it difficult to focus fully on patient care. Over time, I noticed that much of healthcare had become increasingly profit-driven, which ultimately hurts both providers and patients.

As I continued advancing my training, that disconnect became even more apparent. I had the knowledge and skills to deliver exceptional care, but not always the environment to do it. That frustration eventually turned into determination and a desire to create something different. MDRN Dental Studio was built from that vision: a place that combines advanced technology with a calming, spa-like atmosphere, where patients can experience dentistry that is both high-quality and genuinely caring.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
There are many reasons that make MDRN Dental Studio special, from our use of cutting-edge technology to the design of our calming space, or the hundreds of hours of training that go into our patient care. We specialize in cosmetic and implant dentistry, while also providing comprehensive general dentistry for patients of all ages.
What I am most proud of, however, is not just the quality of our dentistry, but the relationships we have built. My favorite part of being a dentist is connecting with people, learning their stories, and seeing them year after year. We have created a place where patients feel like friends, and that sense of trust and familiarity is what makes our practice truly unique.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My biggest piece of advice is to be genuinely curious about others. Take the time to get to know people, understand their experiences, and look for ways you can bring value to them. Always aim to give first, without expecting anything in return.
Be humble enough to ask questions and seek guidance when you need it. Most people are happy to share their knowledge if they see genuine interest and appreciation. Building authentic relationships based on respect and sincerity has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career, both personally and professionally.
