Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Dieterich.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started in Graphic Design and did photography as part of the schooling and fell in love with being a photographer. When I got laid off from my graphic design job I jumped into photography full time. I started with weddings and as my family grew I moved into maternity and newborns and haven’t looked back. I love my “job” and couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I’ve struggled with posing and lighting in the beginning. But I’ve taken many courses and have improved with each session. I’m always learning and trying new things.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a maternity and newborn photographer and those are the subjects I specialize in. I’m known for a few things, my organic, natural style and my patience. I get called a “baby whisperer” almost every newborn session. I’m most proud of keeping my business going all these years, almost 19. I think what sets me apart is my attention to details and definitely my patience.
How do you think about happiness?
My family definitely makes me happy. My oldest just started college and I couldn’t be more proud. My youngest just got their first job which also makes me proud. And my loving and supporting husband of 26 years. He’s always supported me and my business and continues to make my dreams come true. In business photographing newborns definitely makes me happy. I love children and it definitely helps baby fever as those days for me are long gone.
