Meet D. Alexander of Dallas District

Today we’d like to introduce you to D. Alexander.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Very into electronics and gadgets. I was the type of kid at age 8 to take a small G.E. alarm clock radio apart and hook a 12-inch sub pioneer car speaker to it just to see how much louder it would go. I was always into music and arts and sometimes the things other kids found weird artsy stuff or weren’t really into musically I found myself immersed in and trying to learn as much about it as I could.

Since a child I would write music, poems, ideas, and thoughts down or draw something every day. I’ve always been a leader, organizer, and motivator since I can remember. Being very well spoken I would use words others found difficult eloquently and with ease.

I’ve been creating music for over 15 years. I began in the era of pushing physical copies to being totally immersed in the newly digital era were now in. I’ve had releases on major mixtape platforms and also streaming services like Apple, Spotify and Google Play. I’ve had my music played on major radio, done shows with big industry artist, produced for numerous artist and still working with the some of the biggest names in music right now.

In 2010 childhood friend Travis Blackshear and myself opened up a Discount cigarette shop/recording studio in the Singing Hills neighborhood of Dallas. The clientele was growing quikly off word of mouth and a lot of the local artist came by just to hang out even if they didn’t record.

Around 2013 I hooked up with my business partner and longtime friend Stan Hutchinson and we both decided to open up a recording studio in Garland, Texas with well known Dallas producer Da Dreak. The studio was named Digi Werk, I started working here as an engineer while still continuing to create my own music and production. After 6 months here I decided to leave and open another studio in Dallas.

I opened the studio on Mockingbird Ln. in the North/West Dallas area. This is were Dallas District came to life. I stayed in this location for 2 years after deciding to move the studio to a more central location Downtown off Griffin St. and from there the rest was history.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, it’s been smooth but 1st off for all small businesses the financial struggle is the biggest part of maintaining any business. In 2010, one night leaving the cigarette shop myself and cousin/rapper Bad Off had been involved in a serious car accident. We were hit by a drunk driver leaving the studio. Rushed to ICU with a punctured lung, ruptured spleen, broken ribs, and jaw broke in 2 places I was almost conspired dead before making it to the hospital.
Unfortunately, the driver of the other vehicle had no insurance and myself being underinsured I really lost a lot and had to come back up from the bottom. After having my mouth wired shut for over a month and rehabilitating my body back to top-notch health I then took a year away from everything music and anything business. Also my mother being diagnosis with colon cancer and liver cirrhosis 4 years ago really opened my eyes to the importance of family and also our health. Having to take time away from my business to take care of my mother sometimes was one of the biggest struggles I’ve ever faced.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I established Dallas District in 2015. I opened up as a professional recording studio located in Dallas Downtown/Cedars area. After recording some of Dallas biggest names such as Tay K, C Struggs, Cuban Doll, Diego Money, Chris Sails, Tony & Ray Gunna, Band Man Fari, HFAP and so many more great Dallas artist the studio became known as much more than a place to lay down lyrics. All while building the brand my social media presence grew so quick that I then became more like a blog and began to have a big influence on the Dallas music scene.

I started to promote and showcase artist that we had recorded in the studio as well as other artists in the city we had never worked with but liked their music. It didn’t take long for the company to gain respect, grow and become a known name in the city.

We now have one of the most known studios in Dallas Texas and a big social media following to back our success. We’ve worked with some of Dallas top artist and still continue to provide service to them all.

We offer recording, production, video and photography services plus social media promotion as well.

My position in the company is Owner/CEO and lead engineer. I make most of if not all of the day to day decisions for the company. I record, mix & master most of the material for our clients. We offer management and mentor services for upcoming artist needing to get their business together and image on point.

We have recorded some of Dallas biggest acts who all have millions of streams and views on the Internet. Our sound is being heard everywhere and now other artist and engineers from all over the world have started using our unique mixing style for their own (I.e. Strong reverb, beat drops
and vocal chops [Dj screw chop])

Our sound and atmosphere set us apart from other studios. I don’t put any limits on musical creativity. The mixing style I use is how the new generation wants others to hear their music and for that reason, the artist is able to easily convey their ideas and connect with me better than other engineers.

I’m very proud of the quality of music coming out of our studio with the name Dallas District being credited for the sound. I am most proud of the relationships we have with all of our clients and the fact that they continue to trust me with their art to this very day.

Come join our music family.
