Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatyanny Griffiths.
Hi Tatyanny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a physical therapist that started my own business about 4-5 months ago. I have worked in a variety of different settings from doing travel therapy to working in physician owned clinics. I enjoyed every clinic that I had been in because I learned a lot and grew from it. The biggest difference I have noticed now having my own practice is having the flexibility to be one-on-one with my patients and be able to provide them with the quality care that they deserve. Most clinics you can jump to different therapists, have techs showing you exercises, and/or doing therapy at the same time your therapist has 1-2 other patients. A friend of mine since high school has his own gym and we collaborated and I opened up a clinic and am practicing out of his gym.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think anybody that tells you opening/running a business is so great and there are no hard times is a complete liar lol. One thing that is surprising is that in PT school you do not have classes that are dedicated to helping you understand what it takes to run a business. There’s always the fear of failing and times are hard when some months are great and other months things slow down. I think the inconsistency can be really hard for people, but thankfully at the gym I work at, there are trainers/coaches/providers that have gone through the same and they are constantly sharing advice. There’s days I want to quit, but I have very supportive people in my life that help keep me going. My patients are amazing and being in the gym with them makes it all worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Lock-In Performance & Rehab. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Lock-In Performance & Rehab is a cash-based physical therapy clinic that provides individualized, one-on-one care. I like to have fun at work and this is what I provide to my clinics. Patients are usually coming in because they are already in pain or struggling with something so why not provide an environment that uplifts their spirits. Yes it’s physical therapy, but you have to build a connection and provide emotional/mental support as well. I would say my niche is treating patients recovering from ACL Reconstruction. Having worked at Carrell Clinic I go to work with some of the most amazing orthopedic surgeons in the country. I worked alongside Dr. Cooper ( Dallas Cowboys physician) for many years and he is one of top surgeons when it comes to ACL reconstruction and that translated to seeing a heavy caseload of this population. From there I have continued to treat his patients as a well as others from the Carrell Clinic, but also word of mouth is a great referral source from me. If you provide good therapy and outcomes, people start to notice and the feedback I have gotten is that parents are always asking “Hey who treated your daughter/son?”. I have been blessed to work with professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, CFL, UFL, for all different kind of injuries. My biggest thing is that if my patients aren’t happy, I’m not happy and I want to make sure that all my patients are back to achieving the goals they set.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I would say to stay true to who you are and be confident. There are hundreds of thousands of physical therapists in the world and many are great, but I wouldn’t have made it this far without being true to who I am. There are many hardships in opening your own business and a lot of times you can doubt your worth or even your ability as a therapist, but at the end of the day I have to reflect on what I have accomplished. The good days are always going to be easy and many times we take them for granted, but the bad days are where you really get to see what you are made of and I know God doesn’t put anything in my path that I can’t handle. I just know that when I look back on my journey I can hold up my head high knowing that I did my best, without compromising my values and respecting others along the way.
