Exploring Life & Business with Aberdeem of Street Sweets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aberdeem.

Hi Aberdeem, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in the humblest corners of the kitchen. I didn’t step into the culinary world as a chef I earned my place in it. I started serving tables, prepping ingredients, doing whatever it took to stay close to the kitchen to learn anything and everything. Eventually, I found my true calling in pastry. There’s something magical about transforming simple ingredients into creations that make people smile.

I started my dessert truck, Betty, with a big dream and a small oven and since then I’ve grown it into something that’s been part of music festivals, special events, and even the Texas Capitol Christmas tree lighting ceremony twice! I’ve rebuilt my business from city to city, each time stronger and more inspired. Every challenge has taught me grit and gratitude.

Today, I create desserts that tell stories blending my Mexican-American roots with global pastry techniques. My goal is to merge artistry, flavor, and emotion to craft desserts that taste like happy memories.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The culinary world can be tough long hours, constant pressure and a lot of sacrifice. There have been moments where I questioned if I’d make it, especially when my father, who was the one that taught me to love the kitchen and chase this dream, became ill. He always reminded me to stay strong and go for it, no matter what stood in my way. Losing that constant encouragement was hard, but his lessons became my anchor.

There were times when it was just me, my mixer and a lot of faith pushing through exhaustion, uncertainty, and fear of failure. The pandemic tested everything I built and moving cities meant starting over again. But each setback taught me something resilience, patience, and a deeper love for my craft.

I learned that success isn’t about things going perfectly. It’s about showing up even when you’re tired or scared, and remembering why you started. Every challenge shaped me into who I am not just a pastry chef, but a fighter with flour on her hands and faith in her heart.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business, Street Sweets is more than a dessert brand it’s about bringing joy to people through my desserts. I wanted to break the mold of the traditional bakery storefront. I wanted to do something different to bring the bakery to you. Whether it’s a private celebration, a community event, or something spontaneous and fun, Street Sweets is all about creating sweet moments wherever people gather.

Everything I make is from scratch, crafted with care and imagination to make each bite feel special. Street Sweets is known for its unique dessert truck, Betty and for creating signature pastries that aren’t just beautiful they’re an experience. Over the years I’ve watched countless smiles come from the simplest desserts, and that’s what keeps me going.

What I’m most proud of is keeping the same fire that started Street Sweets a mix of happiness, creativity, and love for what I do. This brand was built on resilience and heart. I’m not about chasing perfection for me, it’s about passion. Every dessert I make is meant to do more than satisfy a craving it’s about crafting desserts that speak, comfort and that remind people of something deliciously beautiful.

How do you define success?
To me, success isn’t measured in money or fame it’s in the moments. The happy moments, to be exact. It’s seeing a customer’s face light up when they take that first bite of one of my desserts, that instant spark of joy that makes every hour in the kitchen worth it. It’s the freedom to create what I love baking up delicious sweets that bring people happiness.

Success is knowing I didn’t give up even when things got hard. It’s being proud of the person I’ve become through every challenge and staying true to my passion no matter what. To me, success is turning your dreams into something magically sweet and sharing that magic with the world.
