Today we’d like to introduce you to Sally Rodriguez.
Hi Sally, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, my name is Sally Rodriguez, and I’m 27 years old. I’ve always been drawn to creative expression and giving back, especially through dance, music, and working with animals. One of my biggest goals is to one day open both a dance studio and an animal rescue, bringing together the passions that have shaped who I am.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect? It definitely hasn’t been easy or smooth, but every challenge has come with a lesson. Around the age of 17, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. As she fought through it, I fell into a deep depression and stopped doing the things I loved. At the same time, my parents were going through a divorce, which added even more weight to an already overwhelming season of life.
Looking back, I didn’t fully understand how deeply it was affecting me. I drifted away from my passions, surrounded myself with the wrong crowd, isolated myself, and made choices that eventually caught up with me.
Through it all, my mom made a full recovery. She remains my number one fan—always the first in the crowd, cheering me on and ready to dance like no one is watching. Her strength continues to inspire me every day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently a Zumba instructor at Fitness Connection gyms in Garland and Allen. I teach Zumba/Dance on Tuesdays at the Allen location at 5:30 p.m., and Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. and Fridays at 9:00 a.m. at the Garland location.
Zumba has been a part of my life since I was young, and it continues to shape both who I am and how I show up for others.
Staying active through Zumba has boosted my energy, confidence, and overall happiness, and I see those same transformations in the students who attend my classes. Watching others grow more confident through dance is incredibly rewarding, and it’s why I truly believe Zumba can positively impact anyone who gives it a try. For me, Zumba isn’t just a workout—it’s a way to connect, inspire, and uplift others.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I definitely have a few favorites. The Zumba apps help keep my creativity flowing, while Spotify helps me stay organized with my music. Instagram and Facebook allow me to promote my classes and stay connected with my students. When I need to unwind, YouTube is my go-to, especially when I’m watching Bailey Sarian to relax and destress.
