Life & Work with Debora Mora of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debora Mora.

Hi Debora, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Began my journey in childcare in 2010 working as a teacher at Primrose School at Grand Peninsula. I juggled work and going to college. During my time there I worked in every classroom with every age group.

Graduated college with my Bachelors in Biology, growing up I always imagined myself as a pediatrician or pediatric dentist.
However, as I was studying/preparing to take my DAT and shawdowing a pediatric dentist I realized dentistry wasn’t necessarily what I wanted to pursue.

I held various jobs before working at Primrose School at Klyde Warren Park, all of which were great but not fullfilling. While working at UT Southwestern as a researcher, I became pregnant, gave birth and eventually placed my child (Sebastian) in childcare. Sebastian was in childcare for less than a year, as mother my expectations were high, I knew what to look for, what needed to be done etc.. I had years of experience myself as a childcare provider. To say the least my expectations were not being me therefore I decided to become a stay at home mom.

I’ve worked since the age of 16 and staying home wasn’t easy! I decided to search for jobs that could help me balance motherhood and a profession. My husband recommended Primrose, I had the experience and I’ve always gravitated towards children, little did I know that obtaining this job would be my calling.

I began my journey as the executive director at Primrose School at Klyde Warren Park in 2022. I find my job extremely rewarding, it allows me to make a meaningful impact on children, families and teachers every single day. I am able to deliver premium care and provide a nurturing and safe environment. This job allows me to give parents the experience I wish I would’ve had when I had my child Sebastian in childcare.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing comes easy in life!

Being a director is rewarding and challenging at the same time.

Some of the struggles are teacher burnout, managing parent expectations and long hours/emotional demands. However, having a positive outlook, having compassion and reminding youself of your vision is what gets me through those challenging times.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
